| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Dr. J. Kie Bowman is retiring as senior pastor of |

| 6 | 6 | | Hyde Park Baptist Church in Austin on March 19, 2023, after more |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | than 25 years of service to the congregation; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A native of Fairbanks, Alaska, Kie Bowman received a |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | bachelor's degree in religion from the University of the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Cumberlands in Kentucky and went on to attend Southwestern Baptist |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Theological Seminary, where he earned a master's degree in divinity |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | and a doctorate in ministry; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Pastor Bowman assumed the pulpit at Hyde Park |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Baptist Church in 1997; in the course of his tenure, he has led the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | congregation with conviction and compassion, and he oversaw the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | establishment of the church's second campus, The Quarries Church; |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, In addition to meeting the needs of his flock, |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Pastor Bowman has held leadership roles with the Southern Baptist |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Convention and the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention; moreover, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | he has preached at numerous events, including state evangelism |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | conferences and national and international conventions, and he has |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | published six books and contributed to many additional works; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Pastor Bowman and his wife, Tina, have been married |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | since 1981; they count among their blessings a treasured family |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | that includes their three children, Amanda, Laura, and Joseph; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, This inspiring clergyman has dedicated himself to |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | the spiritual education and enrichment of his congregation, and his |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | ministry will continue to resonate in the Austin area and beyond for |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | years to come; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. J. Kie Bowman on his retirement |

| 33 | 33 | | as senior pastor of Hyde Park Baptist Church in Austin and extend to |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
