5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the |
---|
6 | 6 | | passing of John Richard Orr of Clint on February 27, 2023, at the |
---|
7 | 7 | | age of 75; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, John Orr was born on October 7, 1947, to Gerry and |
---|
9 | 9 | | James "Dick" Orr, and he grew up in the Lower Valley with two |
---|
10 | 10 | | sisters, Gerry and Terry; after graduating from Fabens High School, |
---|
11 | 11 | | he went on to attend Kemper Military School in Boonville, Missouri, |
---|
12 | 12 | | and The University of Texas at El Paso; on February 3, 1969, he |
---|
13 | 13 | | joined the United States Marine Corps, and from September 1969 to |
---|
14 | 14 | | September 1970, he served as a scout sniper in Vietnam; he was |
---|
15 | 15 | | honorably discharged at the rank of sergeant; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Following his return from the military, Mr. Orr |
---|
17 | 17 | | spent most of his life farming and working with cattle as a cattle |
---|
18 | 18 | | truck driver and feed lot manager; during his leisure time, he |
---|
19 | 19 | | enjoyed playing golf, attending the annual USMC Scout Sniper |
---|
20 | 20 | | Association reunion and the yearly Cow Hauler reunions, and being |
---|
21 | 21 | | with his family and friends; a proud veteran, he was selected to |
---|
22 | 22 | | take the 2019 Honor Flight of Southern New Mexico and El Paso to |
---|
23 | 23 | | Washington, D.C.; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Above all else, Mr. Orr was devoted to his wife of 46 |
---|
25 | 25 | | years, Teresa, and his son, JJ; he was the proud grandfather of five |
---|
26 | 26 | | grandchildren, Russell, who survives him, and Emma May, John |
---|
27 | 27 | | William, James Benjamin, and Ava Nicole, who preceded him in death; |
---|
28 | 28 | | and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Although John Orr is deeply missed, he has left his |
---|
30 | 30 | | loved ones with a wealth of memories that they will forever |
---|
31 | 31 | | treasure; now, therefore, be it |
---|
32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
33 | 33 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of John Richard Orr and |
---|
34 | 34 | | extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his |
---|
35 | 35 | | wife, Teresa Orr; to his son, John James "JJ" Orr, and his wife, |
---|
36 | 36 | | Carolyn; to his grandson, Russell Welch; to his sisters, Gerry |

37 | 37 | | Reinhardt and her husband, Arthur, and Terry Anson and her husband, |
---|
38 | 38 | | Robert; and to all others who mourn his passing; and, be it further |
