44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the
66 passing of John Richard Orr of Clint on February 27, 2023, at the
77 age of 75; and
88 WHEREAS, John Orr was born on October 7, 1947, to Gerry and
99 James "Dick" Orr, and he grew up in the Lower Valley with two
1010 sisters, Gerry and Terry; after graduating from Fabens High School,
1111 he went on to attend Kemper Military School in Boonville, Missouri,
1212 and The University of Texas at El Paso; on February 3, 1969, he
1313 joined the United States Marine Corps, and from September 1969 to
1414 September 1970, he served as a scout sniper in Vietnam; he was
1515 honorably discharged at the rank of sergeant; and
1616 WHEREAS, Following his return from the military, Mr. Orr
1717 spent most of his life farming and working with cattle as a cattle
1818 truck driver and feed lot manager; during his leisure time, he
1919 enjoyed playing golf, attending the annual USMC Scout Sniper
2020 Association reunion and the yearly Cow Hauler reunions, and being
2121 with his family and friends; a proud veteran, he was selected to
2222 take the 2019 Honor Flight of Southern New Mexico and El Paso to
2323 Washington, D.C.; and
2424 WHEREAS, Above all else, Mr. Orr was devoted to his wife of 46
2525 years, Teresa, and his son, JJ; he was the proud grandfather of five
2626 grandchildren, Russell, who survives him, and Emma May, John
2727 William, James Benjamin, and Ava Nicole, who preceded him in death;
2828 and
2929 WHEREAS, Although John Orr is deeply missed, he has left his
3030 loved ones with a wealth of memories that they will forever
3131 treasure; now, therefore, be it
3232 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
3333 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of John Richard Orr and
3434 extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his
3535 wife, Teresa Orr; to his son, John James "JJ" Orr, and his wife,
3636 Carolyn; to his grandson, Russell Welch; to his sisters, Gerry
3737 Reinhardt and her husband, Arthur, and Terry Anson and her husband,
3838 Robert; and to all others who mourn his passing; and, be it further
3939 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4040 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4141 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of John Orr.
