5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The life of an esteemed physician drew to a close |
---|
6 | 6 | | with the passing of Dr. Harmon Watson Kelley of San Antonio on |
---|
7 | 7 | | January 26, 2023, at the age of 77; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born in Cameron on June 22, 1945, Harmon Kelley was |
---|
9 | 9 | | the son of Harmon and Shirley Kelley; he grew up with four siblings, |
---|
10 | 10 | | Constance, Danny, David, and Marvin, and he graduated as |
---|
11 | 11 | | valedictorian of the Class of 1963 at O. J. Thomas High School; he |
---|
12 | 12 | | was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Army while studying at |
---|
13 | 13 | | Prairie View A&M University, where he graduated cum laude, and he |
---|
14 | 14 | | went on to earn his doctor of medicine degree from The University of |
---|
15 | 15 | | Texas Medical Branch at Galveston; a member of the U.S. Army Medical |
---|
16 | 16 | | Corps, he completed his obstetrics and gynecology residency at |
---|
17 | 17 | | William Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Kelley was subsequently stationed at Fort Hood |
---|
19 | 19 | | in Killeen, serving as chief of the obstetrics and gynecology |
---|
20 | 20 | | department at the Darnall Army Medical Center; in 1978, he moved to |
---|
21 | 21 | | San Antonio and founded Southeast OB-GYN Associates, P.A., where he |
---|
22 | 22 | | practiced for 44 years; in other tenures, he served as chief of |
---|
23 | 23 | | staff of the former Southeast Baptist Hospital and chair of the |
---|
24 | 24 | | OB/GYN Department for the Baptist Health System; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Widely respected, Dr. Kelley received the Ashbel |
---|
26 | 26 | | Smith Distinguished Alumni Award, the highest honor bestowed by the |
---|
27 | 27 | | UTMB School of Medicine Alumni Association; he also garnered the |
---|
28 | 28 | | Baptist Health System W. B. Russ Lifetime Achievement Award and the |
---|
29 | 29 | | prestigious Golden Aesculapius Award from the Bexar County Medical |
---|
30 | 30 | | Society; in 2004, Dr. Harmon W. Kelley Elementary School in San |
---|
31 | 31 | | Antonio was established in his honor; and |
---|
32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Kelley enjoyed the love and support of his wife |
---|
33 | 33 | | of 53 years, Harriet, and he took great pride in their two |
---|
34 | 34 | | daughters, Margaret and Jennifer; and |
---|
35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Deeply devoted to his family and his community, |
---|
36 | 36 | | Dr. Harmon Kelley made a meaningful difference in the lives of his |
---|
37 | 37 | | patients and fellow citizens, and his contributions will resonate |
---|
38 | 38 | | for years to come; now, therefore, be it |
---|
39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
40 | 40 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Dr. Harmon Watson |
---|
41 | 41 | | Kelley and extend heartfelt condolences to the members of his |
---|
42 | 42 | | family: to his wife, Harriet O'Banion Kelley; to his daughters, |
---|
43 | 43 | | Dr. Margaret A. Kelley and Jennifer R. Kelley; to his sister, |
---|
44 | 44 | | Constance Ward; to his brothers, Dr. Danny Kelley and his wife, |
---|
45 | 45 | | Dr. Janice Kelley, and David Kelley and his wife, Karen Kelley; to |
---|
46 | 46 | | his brother-in-law, Charles H. O'Banion, Esq.; and to all others |

47 | 47 | | who mourn his passing; and, be it further |

48 | 48 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
