| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Since 2016, the Dallas Wings of the Women's National |

| 6 | 6 | | Basketball Association have brought an exciting brand of basketball |

| 7 | 7 | | to North Texas while demonstrating an impressive commitment to |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | serving the community; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Originating as the Detroit Shock in 1998, the Wings |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | captured three WNBA championships during the team's 12 years in the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Motor City; the franchise relocated to Tulsa, Oklahoma, for six |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | seasons, and then moved to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex in |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | advance of the 2016 campaign; playing their home games at the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | College Park Center at The University of Texas at Arlington, the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Wings have reached the playoffs in four of the seven years they have |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | been based in Texas, including postseason appearances in 2021 and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | 2022; they are currently the only team in the WNBA representing the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Lone Star State; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Dedicated to giving back, the organization |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | established the Dallas Wings Community Foundation to make a |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | positive difference in the North Texas area; the foundation has |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | placed a strong emphasis on serving historically marginalized |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | groups by promoting diversity, equity, and inclusivity; toward that |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | end, the team is committed to empowering women and girls through a |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | range of initiatives, and in 2022, it commemorated the 50th |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | anniversary of Title IX, which enabled women to achieve greater |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | access to athletics and other school programs; in addition to |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | supporting youth sports, health awareness, and education, the Wings |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | have partnered with the Count It Coalition to encourage greater |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | public engagement in elections and to increase voter access and |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | participation; and |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Through their determined efforts, the members of the |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Dallas Wings franchise have served as exemplary civic partners, and |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | all those associated with the team are deserving of recognition for |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | their exceptional work; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

| 37 | 37 | | Legislature hereby commend the Dallas Wings organization for its |

| 38 | 38 | | contributions to the community and extend to the team's players, |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | coaches, management, and staff sincere best wishes for the future; |
