5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Residents of Hays County lost a beloved educator |
---|
6 | 6 | | with the passing of Armando Chapa of Kyle on April 13, 2022, at the |
---|
7 | 7 | | age of 81; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The son of Jose and Alberta Chapa, Armando Chapa was |
---|
9 | 9 | | born in Houston on January 1, 1941; he graduated from The University |
---|
10 | 10 | | of Texas at Austin and worked for the Gary Job Corps Center in San |
---|
11 | 11 | | Marcos; in 1974, he was recruited by the Hays-Blanco Special |
---|
12 | 12 | | Education Cooperative and was quickly promoted to special education |
---|
13 | 13 | | supervisor and then principal of Hays Middle School; he went on to |
---|
14 | 14 | | earn a master's degree in guidance and counseling from Prairie View |
---|
15 | 15 | | A&M University, and in 1986, he became the founding principal of |
---|
16 | 16 | | Wallace Middle School; thoughtful and caring, he took great |
---|
17 | 17 | | satisfaction in advising students, and in the early 1990s, he began |
---|
18 | 18 | | a long tenure as a counselor at Barton Middle School; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Although he retired in 2004, Mr. Chapa continued to |
---|
20 | 20 | | serve as a mentor in both the Hays Consolidated Independent School |
---|
21 | 21 | | District and Lockhart ISD; admired by all for his firm yet |
---|
22 | 22 | | collaborative leadership, great kindness, and marvelous sense of |
---|
23 | 23 | | humor, he was a role model in the Hispanic community and used his |
---|
24 | 24 | | platform to advocate tirelessly for education; in 2006, Hays ISD |
---|
25 | 25 | | named a newly built middle school in his honor; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Chapa was devoted to his wife of 55 years, |
---|
27 | 27 | | Evangelina "Angie" Chapa, and their five daughters, Veronica, |
---|
28 | 28 | | Cynthia, Rebecca, Jessica, and Cassandra; in later years, he knew |
---|
29 | 29 | | the joy of welcoming into his family seven grandchildren, |
---|
30 | 30 | | Christopher, Matthew, Jaxson, Jace, Joseph, Juliana, and Jordan; a |
---|
31 | 31 | | man of faith, he was a valued parishioner of St. Anthony Marie de |
---|
32 | 32 | | Claret Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus; he |
---|
33 | 33 | | was an avid reader and sports fan, and he supported the Hays Rebels |
---|
34 | 34 | | as a statistician, announcer, and journalist; and |
---|
35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Armando Chapa enriched the lives of generations of |
---|
36 | 36 | | Central Texas students, and although he will be deeply missed by |
---|
37 | 37 | | those he left behind, they will forever treasure their memories of |
---|
38 | 38 | | his warmth, wisdom, and compassion; now, therefore, be it |
---|
39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
40 | 40 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Armando Chapa and |
---|
41 | 41 | | extend sincere condolences to all who mourn his passing; and, be it |
---|
42 | 42 | | further |

43 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

44 | 44 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |

45 | 45 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Armando |
