5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Denise M. Trauth retired as president of Texas |
---|
6 | 6 | | State University on May 31, 2022, drawing to a close nearly two |
---|
7 | 7 | | decades of outstanding service to the university; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, In 2002, Dr. Trauth became the first woman to serve |
---|
9 | 9 | | as president of Texas State, and she skillfully guided the school |
---|
10 | 10 | | through a period of unprecedented growth; she oversaw the |
---|
11 | 11 | | establishment of the Wittliff Collections, the Ingram School of |
---|
12 | 12 | | Engineering, and the Science, Technology, and Advanced Research |
---|
13 | 13 | | (STAR) Park; she also oversaw the school's greatest construction |
---|
14 | 14 | | boom since its founding in 1899, including four new residence |
---|
15 | 15 | | halls, a new performing arts building, the Bruce and Gloria Ingram |
---|
16 | 16 | | Hall on the San Marcos campus, and the Avery Building, St. David's |
---|
17 | 17 | | School of Nursing, and Willow Hall on the Round Rock campus; under |
---|
18 | 18 | | her leadership, Texas State became a member of the NCAA Division I |
---|
19 | 19 | | FBS Western Athletic Conference and earned a designation as a Texas |
---|
20 | 20 | | Emerging Research University; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Denise Trauth earned her master's degree from |
---|
22 | 22 | | The Ohio State University and her Ph.D. from the University of |
---|
23 | 23 | | Iowa, and she previously served as provost and vice chancellor for |
---|
24 | 24 | | academic affairs at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte; |
---|
25 | 25 | | she has contributed to the Central Texas community as president of |
---|
26 | 26 | | the Greater San Marcos Partnership and the Austin Area Research |
---|
27 | 27 | | Organization, among others, and her many awards include the Ohtli |
---|
28 | 28 | | Award from the government of Mexico and the Women of Distinction |
---|
29 | 29 | | Award from the Girl Scouts; and |
---|
30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, Dr. Trauth has enjoyed the |
---|
31 | 31 | | love and support of her husband, Dr. John Huffman, as well as that |
---|
32 | 32 | | of her two daughters, four grandchildren, and three |
---|
33 | 33 | | great-grandchildren; and |
---|
34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Denise Trauth's vision, expertise, and commitment |
---|
35 | 35 | | to excellence have greatly benefited Texas State University and |
---|
36 | 36 | | earned her the respect and admiration of its staff, students, and |
---|
37 | 37 | | alumni, and she may indeed reflect with pride on her record of |
---|
38 | 38 | | achievement; now, therefore, be it |
---|
39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
40 | 40 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Denise M. Trauth on her |
---|
41 | 41 | | retirement from Texas State University and extend to her sincere |
---|
42 | 42 | | best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further |
---|
43 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
