44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Dr. Denise M. Trauth retired as president of Texas
66 State University on May 31, 2022, drawing to a close nearly two
77 decades of outstanding service to the university; and
88 WHEREAS, In 2002, Dr. Trauth became the first woman to serve
99 as president of Texas State, and she skillfully guided the school
1010 through a period of unprecedented growth; she oversaw the
1111 establishment of the Wittliff Collections, the Ingram School of
1212 Engineering, and the Science, Technology, and Advanced Research
1313 (STAR) Park; she also oversaw the school's greatest construction
1414 boom since its founding in 1899, including four new residence
1515 halls, a new performing arts building, the Bruce and Gloria Ingram
1616 Hall on the San Marcos campus, and the Avery Building, St. David's
1717 School of Nursing, and Willow Hall on the Round Rock campus; under
1818 her leadership, Texas State became a member of the NCAA Division I
1919 FBS Western Athletic Conference and earned a designation as a Texas
2020 Emerging Research University; and
2121 WHEREAS, Denise Trauth earned her master's degree from
2222 The Ohio State University and her Ph.D. from the University of
2323 Iowa, and she previously served as provost and vice chancellor for
2424 academic affairs at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte;
2525 she has contributed to the Central Texas community as president of
2626 the Greater San Marcos Partnership and the Austin Area Research
2727 Organization, among others, and her many awards include the Ohtli
2828 Award from the government of Mexico and the Women of Distinction
2929 Award from the Girl Scouts; and
3030 WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, Dr. Trauth has enjoyed the
3131 love and support of her husband, Dr. John Huffman, as well as that
3232 of her two daughters, four grandchildren, and three
3333 great-grandchildren; and
3434 WHEREAS, Denise Trauth's vision, expertise, and commitment
3535 to excellence have greatly benefited Texas State University and
3636 earned her the respect and admiration of its staff, students, and
3737 alumni, and she may indeed reflect with pride on her record of
3838 achievement; now, therefore, be it
3939 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
4040 Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Denise M. Trauth on her
4141 retirement from Texas State University and extend to her sincere
4242 best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further
4343 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4444 prepared for Dr. Trauth as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4545 House of Representatives.
