5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Dr. David Creech of Stephen F. Austin State |

7 | 7 | | presented with the 2022 Outstanding International Horticulturist |

8 | 8 | | Award from the American Society for Horticultural Science; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Each year, the society honors an individual who has |

10 | 10 | | made an outstanding contribution to international horticultural |
---|
11 | 11 | | science, education, research, or outreach for a period of 10 years |
---|
12 | 12 | | or more; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Creech is professor emeritus of agriculture and |
---|
14 | 14 | | director of SFA Gardens at Stephen F. Austin State University; for |
---|
15 | 15 | | more than four decades, he has conducted international research, |
---|
16 | 16 | | exploring such areas as kiwifruit commercialization in South |
---|
17 | 17 | | Africa, Italy, and New Zealand, blueberry production and urban tree |
---|
18 | 18 | | research in China, and fruit and vegetable production in Guatemala |
---|
19 | 19 | | and Pakistan; he is the recipient of numerous honors, including the |
---|
20 | 20 | | Charles Leonard Weddle Memorial Award for Lifetime Achievement from |
---|
21 | 21 | | the Native Plant Society of Texas, the Sidney B. Meadows Award for |
---|
22 | 22 | | Distinguished Achievement from the Southern Region of the |
---|
23 | 23 | | International Plant Propagators' Society, and the Honorary |
---|
24 | 24 | | Lifetime Membership Award from the Texas Nursery and Landscape |
---|
25 | 25 | | Association; and |

26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Creech first joined SFA as an assistant |

27 | 27 | | professor of horticulture in 1978; in addition to his other |
---|
28 | 28 | | responsibilities, he has played an instrumental role in the |
---|
29 | 29 | | development of the four facilities that make up SFA Gardens: |
---|
30 | 30 | | Pineywoods Native Plant Center, the Mast Arboretum, the Ruby M. and |
---|
31 | 31 | | Gayla Mize Azalea Gardens, and Jimmy Hinds Park; and |
---|
32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, With his expertise, professionalism, and commitment |
---|
33 | 33 | | to education, David Creech has earned the lasting respect and |
---|
34 | 34 | | admiration of his colleagues, and he is indeed deserving of this |
---|
35 | 35 | | prestigious honor; now, therefore, be it |
---|
36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

37 | 37 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. David Creech on receiving the |

38 | 38 | | 2022 Outstanding International Horticulturist Award from the |
