55 WHEREAS, Ginny Levenback and Dr. Charles Levenback have
66 greatly distinguished themselves through their long record of
77 dedicated service to the citizens of Houston; and
88 WHEREAS, Ginny Levenback worked for 20 years as a corporate
99 transactional and regulatory attorney at the United Gas Pipeline
1010 Company and Williams; in 2005, she founded Levenback & Associates,
1111 where she acted as general counsel for two start-up companies and
1212 handled legal matters including mediation, entertainment law,
1313 contract drafting and negotiation, real estate, and Holocaust-era
1414 restitution claims; a cancer survivor, she currently works as a
1515 coach for individuals facing personal and professional transitions
1616 and serves on the leadership team at Unity of Houston; she is a
1717 graduate of St. Lawrence University, The University of Texas School
1818 of Law, and the Center for Houston's Future Leadership Forum; and
1919 WHEREAS, For more than three decades, Dr. Levenback served as
2020 a gynecological oncologist at The University of Texas MD Anderson
2121 Cancer Center, and he also held administrative roles such as chief
2222 quality officer and chief professionalism officer; over the course
2323 of his career, he pioneered sentinel node biopsy in women with
2424 gynecologic cancer; a world-class oncologist, he earned an
2525 unparalleled reputation for his bedside manner, and he helped one
2626 cancer patient launch a campaign to obtain an experimental drug
2727 that was considered safe for use; he and his wife formed a skilled
2828 and supportive team who worked together to help countless patients;
2929 a graduate of McGill University, Dr. Levenback attended Albert
3030 Einstein College of Medicine, and he also studied at the Icahn
3131 School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and Memorial Sloan Kettering
3232 Cancer Center; and
3333 WHEREAS, Native New Yorkers, the Levenbacks are longtime
3434 residents of the Bayou City, and they take great pride in their two
3535 sons, Sam and Ben, their daughter-in-law, Melissa, and their
3636 grandson, Simon; they volunteer at a local public school and are
3737 valued supporters of Houston's professional sports teams;
3838 partnering with one of Dr. Levenback's patients, the couple
3939 established the Levenback Family Endowment Fund at Holocaust Museum
4040 Houston, which will generate income to support changing
4141 exhibitions, archival preservations, and social justice
4242 educational activities; the museum also received an important
4343 collection of documents, furniture, art, and photographs from the
4444 Levenback family; Dr. Levenback's mother, Hedwig Basch Levenback,
4545 was one of 10,000 Jewish children evacuated from Germany and
4646 Austria to England on the Kindertransport, and the donation became
4747 the core of the museum's Uprooted exhibit in 2013; and
4848 WHEREAS, Our communities draw immeasurable strength from
4949 individuals such as Ginny and Charles Levenback, whose generosity
5050 and civic engagement have made a positive and lasting difference in
5151 Houston; now, therefore, be it
5252 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
5353 Legislature hereby honor Ginny Levenback and Dr. Charles Levenback
5454 for their contributions to the Houston community and extend to them
5555 sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
5656 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5757 prepared for Dr. and Mrs. Levenback as an expression of high regard
5858 by the Texas House of Representatives.
