5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Ginny Levenback and Dr. Charles Levenback have |

6 | 6 | | greatly distinguished themselves through their long record of |

7 | 7 | | dedicated service to the citizens of Houston; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Ginny Levenback worked for 20 years as a corporate |
---|
9 | 9 | | transactional and regulatory attorney at the United Gas Pipeline |
---|
10 | 10 | | Company and Williams; in 2005, she founded Levenback & Associates, |
---|
11 | 11 | | where she acted as general counsel for two start-up companies and |
---|
12 | 12 | | handled legal matters including mediation, entertainment law, |
---|
13 | 13 | | contract drafting and negotiation, real estate, and Holocaust-era |
---|
14 | 14 | | restitution claims; a cancer survivor, she currently works as a |
---|
15 | 15 | | coach for individuals facing personal and professional transitions |
---|
16 | 16 | | and serves on the leadership team at Unity of Houston; she is a |
---|
17 | 17 | | graduate of St. Lawrence University, The University of Texas School |
---|
18 | 18 | | of Law, and the Center for Houston's Future Leadership Forum; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, For more than three decades, Dr. Levenback served as |
---|
20 | 20 | | a gynecological oncologist at The University of Texas MD Anderson |
---|
21 | 21 | | Cancer Center, and he also held administrative roles such as chief |
---|
22 | 22 | | quality officer and chief professionalism officer; over the course |
---|
23 | 23 | | of his career, he pioneered sentinel node biopsy in women with |
---|
24 | 24 | | gynecologic cancer; a world-class oncologist, he earned an |
---|
25 | 25 | | unparalleled reputation for his bedside manner, and he helped one |
---|
26 | 26 | | cancer patient launch a campaign to obtain an experimental drug |
---|
27 | 27 | | that was considered safe for use; he and his wife formed a skilled |
---|
28 | 28 | | and supportive team who worked together to help countless patients; |
---|
29 | 29 | | a graduate of McGill University, Dr. Levenback attended Albert |
---|
30 | 30 | | Einstein College of Medicine, and he also studied at the Icahn |
---|
31 | 31 | | School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and Memorial Sloan Kettering |
---|
32 | 32 | | Cancer Center; and |
---|
33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Native New Yorkers, the Levenbacks are longtime |
---|
34 | 34 | | residents of the Bayou City, and they take great pride in their two |
---|
35 | 35 | | sons, Sam and Ben, their daughter-in-law, Melissa, and their |
---|
36 | 36 | | grandson, Simon; they volunteer at a local public school and are |
---|
37 | 37 | | valued supporters of Houston's professional sports teams; |
---|
38 | 38 | | partnering with one of Dr. Levenback's patients, the couple |
---|
39 | 39 | | established the Levenback Family Endowment Fund at Holocaust Museum |
---|
40 | 40 | | Houston, which will generate income to support changing |
---|
41 | 41 | | exhibitions, archival preservations, and social justice |
---|
42 | 42 | | educational activities; the museum also received an important |
---|
43 | 43 | | collection of documents, furniture, art, and photographs from the |
---|
44 | 44 | | Levenback family; Dr. Levenback's mother, Hedwig Basch Levenback, |
---|
45 | 45 | | was one of 10,000 Jewish children evacuated from Germany and |
---|
46 | 46 | | Austria to England on the Kindertransport, and the donation became |
---|
47 | 47 | | the core of the museum's Uprooted exhibit in 2013; and |
---|
48 | 48 | | WHEREAS, Our communities draw immeasurable strength from |
---|
49 | 49 | | individuals such as Ginny and Charles Levenback, whose generosity |
---|
50 | 50 | | and civic engagement have made a positive and lasting difference in |
---|
51 | 51 | | Houston; now, therefore, be it |
---|
52 | 52 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
53 | 53 | | Legislature hereby honor Ginny Levenback and Dr. Charles Levenback |
---|
54 | 54 | | for their contributions to the Houston community and extend to them |
---|
55 | 55 | | sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
---|
56 | 56 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
---|
57 | 57 | | prepared for Dr. and Mrs. Levenback as an expression of high regard |
---|
