| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Scouts BSA Troop No. 434 in the Sunnyside community |

| 6 | 6 | | of Houston is celebrating the 55th anniversary of its founding in |

| 7 | 7 | | 2023; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Troop No. 434 was established in 1968 with the help |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | of scoutmaster London Wilson and assistant scoutmasters Robert Bass |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | and Marcellus Washington; Mr. Wilson served as scoutmaster until |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | 1976 when Lonnie Burrell and Robert Price took over the troop; in |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | 1999, Troop No. 1008 transferred its membership to Troop No. 434, |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | and that year, Sullivan Thornton Jr. was selected as scoutmaster; |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | over the years, the troop has benefited from the generous support of |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Bud's Meat Market and Johnson Funeral Home; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Today, Troop No. 434 is led by scoutmaster Lionel |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Tomlin and assistant scoutmasters Brandon Achane, Arthur Gibbs, and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Roland Foster, and it has produced 40 Eagle Scouts since 2000; for |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | more than 30 years, the troop has enjoyed the sponsorship of |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Blueridge United Methodist Church; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Scouts BSA Troop No. 434 has made a significant |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | difference in the lives of countless young Texans while |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | contributing to the betterment of the community, and it is indeed a |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | pleasure to join in recognizing this momentous milestone in the |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | group's rich history; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 55th anniversary of Scouts BSA |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Troop No. 434 and extend to its members and leaders sincere best |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | wishes for the future; and, be it further |

| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
