| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The City of Richardson was honored with the 2022 |

| 6 | 6 | | Category 2 National Night Out award by the National Association of |

| 7 | 7 | | Town Watch, providing a fitting opportunity to recognize the |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Richardson Police Department Community Relations Unit for its |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | contributions in organizing this annual campaign; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, National Night Out is designed to heighten crime |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | prevention awareness, generate support for local anti-crime |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | programs, and strengthen neighborhood spirit and partnerships |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | between police and the community; cities and towns across the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | country celebrate the night with a variety of events, such as block |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | parties, cookouts, parades, festivals, and safety fairs; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, For their National Night Out efforts in 2022, the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Richardson Police Department and the City of Richardson received |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | first place in the country in the category for city populations |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | between 100,000 and 300,000; the award is given based on citizen |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | participation, law enforcement involvement, organization, and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | quality of the activities; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Richardson has taken part in the National Night Out |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | campaign for more than three decades; the Community Relations Unit |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | of the Richardson PD coordinates the program each year, |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | collaborating with city officials, the local fire department, |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | neighborhoods, and businesses to host the festivities; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, The Richardson PD Community Relations Unit is led by |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | unit supervisor Sergeant Michelle Hall and receives additional |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | support from Officers Mike Scroggins, Raul Reyes, David |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Beregszaszy, and Tommy Davis; among its many duties, the unit |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | provides crime prevention education to the community, conducts the |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | annual Citizen Police Academy, and assists homeowners |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | associations, apartment complex managers, and businesses in |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | striving for a crime free environment; and |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, By organizing this important campaign, the members |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | of the Richardson Police Department Community Relations Unit have |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | demonstrated their commitment to building a stronger and safer |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | community, and they are indeed deserving of this prestigious honor; |
|---|

| 40 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

| 41 | 41 | | Legislature hereby congratulate the Community Relations Unit of the |
