5	5	WHEREAS, The West Texas A&M University Lady Buffs proved
6	6	themselves one of the finest volleyball teams in the nation by
7	7	winning the 2022 NCAA Division II national championship; and
8	8	WHEREAS, Following an undefeated run in league play during
9	9	the regular season, the Lady Buffs claimed the Lone Star Conference
10	10	Tournament title and then embarked on their triumphant journey
11	11	through the Division II bracket; following wins in the first two
12	12	rounds, they defeated top-ranked Metropolitan State University of
13	13	Denver in the regional final to advance to the national tournament
14	14	in Seattle, Washington; there, WT bested Wingate University in the
15	15	Elite Eight and the University of Missouri-St. Louis in the
16	16	semifinals to punch its ticket to the national championship match
17	17	for the fifth time in program history; and
18	18	WHEREAS, On December 3, WT battled top-seeded Concordia
19	19	University, St. Paul for the national crown; the Lady Buffs won two
20	20	of the first three sets and then staged a fierce comeback in the
21	21	fourth and deciding game, erasing a 23-20 deficit to win by the
22	22	final score of 28-26; with the victory, WT earned its first national
23	23	championship since 1997 and the fourth overall; and
24	24	WHEREAS, The team was paced by Torrey Miller, the National
25	25	Tournament Most Valuable Player, who was joined by Bryli Contreras,
26	26	Abi Nash, and Kayla Elliott on the All-Tournament Team; throughout
27	27	the year, the Lady Buffs also received valuable contributions from
28	28	the other members of the roster: Emma Becker, Piper Warren, Ashlyn
29	29	Vinyard, Jaycee Adams, Taytum Stow, Ainsley Malis, Camy Jones,
30	30	Blair Moreland, Lindsey Bullard, Angelina Oliver, Ainsley
31	31	Meissner, Samantha Jordan, Katrina Johnson, Emma Patterson, Zahria
32	32	Parker, and Carly Evetts; and
33	33	WHEREAS, Head coach Kendra Potts was honored as the American
34	34	Volleyball Coaches Association Division II National Coach of the
35	35	Year; the team was further supported by associate head coach Casey
36	36	Shingler, the AVCA National Assistant Coach of the Year, assistant
37	37	coach Brooke Alverson, athletic trainer Austin Feltner, and
38	38	volunteer assistant coach Jeremie Middleton; and
39	39	WHEREAS, Playing with exemplary skill, determination, and
40	40	teamwork, the Lady Buffs realized their season-long goal of
41	41	becoming national champions, and their achievement will forever be
42	42	a proud memory for the university's loyal fans throughout Texas and
43	43	beyond; now, therefore, be it
44	44	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
45	45	Legislature hereby congratulate the West Texas A&M University
46	46	volleyball team on winning the 2022 NCAA Division II national
47	47	championship and extend to the players, coaches, and staff sincere
48	48	best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
49	49	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
50	50	prepared for the Lady Buffs as an expression of high regard by the
51	51	Texas House of Representatives.
