5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Fine arts teachers enrich the lives of their |

7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Music, visual art, theater, and dance can be |

8 | 8 | | tremendous catalysts for personal growth; appreciation of the arts |

9 | 9 | | and participation in creative pursuits help boost cognitive |

10 | 10 | | development, enhance critical thinking, hone problem-solving |
---|
11 | 11 | | skills, and build self-confidence; moreover, the arts foster |
---|
12 | 12 | | multicultural respect and social engagement; and |

13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Over 1.8 million Texas students in public schools |
---|
14 | 14 | | are enrolled in fine arts courses and programs at the secondary |
---|
15 | 15 | | level; these students have higher rates of attendance, higher test |
---|
16 | 16 | | scores, and higher graduation rates; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Texas is fortunate to count among its arts educators |
---|
18 | 18 | | many national leaders in their disciplines; it is the only state |
---|
19 | 19 | | that can boast of back-to-back national Grammy Music Educator Award |
---|
20 | 20 | | winners; in 2022, Stephen Cox of the San Antonio Independent School |
---|
21 | 21 | | District received the honor while teaching in the Eastland |
---|
22 | 22 | | Independent School District; Pamela Dawson of DeSoto ISD garnered |
---|
23 | 23 | | this recognition in 2023; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Fine arts teachers are committed to providing every |
---|
25 | 25 | | child with the opportunity to experience the many rewards of |
---|
26 | 26 | | creative expression and to become more well-rounded, curious, and |
---|
27 | 27 | | thoughtful individuals; now, therefore, be it |
---|
28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
29 | 29 | | Legislature hereby recognize fine arts educators for their |
---|
30 | 30 | | contributions and extend to all members of the profession across |
---|
31 | 31 | | the state sincere appreciation for their outstanding work. |
