| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Dennis Byrd, president of Island Famous Inc., has |

| 6 | 6 | | announced plans to open a new location of The Spot restaurant at |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | William P. Hobby Airport in Houston; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Founded in 1998, The Spot was first built from three |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | vacant houses that were moved to a lot on Seawall Boulevard in |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Galveston, and it has long been a popular gathering place for local |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | residents; when the restaurant opened, Mr. Byrd joined the staff as |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | a dishwasher, and he worked his way up to become a chef before |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | purchasing the business in 2002; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Under Mr. Byrd's able leadership, the business |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | expanded to become Island Famous, an umbrella organization that |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | encompasses The Spot as well as a number of other enterprises, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | including Tiki Bar, Squeeze Ritas & Tequilas, Rum Shack, and Side |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Yard, which are all located at the site of the original restaurant; |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | over the years, Island Famous has also established two beachfront |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | hotels in the area; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, The Spot's location at Hobby Airport is expected to |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | open in the winter of 2024; in addition to the airport branch, The |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Spot is set to open another site in League City later this year; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Through his dedication, vision, and expertise, |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Dennis Byrd has furthered The Spot's reputation as a beloved |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Galveston institution, and the restaurant's new location at Hobby |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Airport is sure to be a welcome addition to the Houston business |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | scene; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Dennis Byrd on establishing a new |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | location of The Spot restaurant at William P. Hobby Airport and |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it |
