44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Family and friends will long cherish their memories
66 of Richard Camp Murphy of Kaufman, who passed away on July 29, 2022,
77 at the age of 84; and
88 WHEREAS, Born in Dallas on September 17, 1937, Dick Murphy
99 was the son of Bonneau and Glieth Murphy, and he grew up with the
1010 companionship of a sister, Suzanne; after spending his formative
1111 years in Kentucky and Pennsylvania, he graduated from the Webb
1212 School in Tennessee; he went on to earn a bachelor's degree in
1313 philosophy from DePauw University and a master's degree from the
1414 Rutgers University Graduate School of Accounting; and
1515 WHEREAS, Mr. Murphy began his career in New York City at
1616 Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. and later transferred to the Dallas
1717 area, where he was eventually named a junior partner; after 15 years
1818 at that firm, he became president of Dallas General Life Insurance
1919 Company and worked there for two decades; and
2020 WHEREAS, A resident of Cottonwood for more than 40 years,
2121 Mr. Murphy was elected to two terms as Kaufman County tax
2222 assessor-collector and served as a municipal judge; he further
2323 benefited his fellow citizens as a member of several community
2424 boards and the Kaufman Lions Club; his passion for ranching led him
2525 to cofound the Calvin A. Sloan Memorial Fund, which supports the
2626 Kaufman County Junior Livestock Show; he also loved fishing and was
2727 the owner of the Billy Bass Lure Co.; and
2828 WHEREAS, Above all, Mr. Murphy was devoted to his family; he
2929 shared a fulfilling marriage of 64 years with his wife, Nancy, and
3030 he took great pride in their three children, Glee, Bob, and Jessica;
3131 with the passing years, he had the pleasure of seeing his family
3232 grow to include nine grandchildren, Matt, Sarah, David, Lauren,
3333 Henley, Natalie, Amanda, Joe, and the late Rachel Dawn Pugh, as well
3434 as six great-grandchildren, Camp, Jax, Rachel, Winry, Alphonse, and
3535 the late Felicity Tapp; a man of faith, he helped found Country
3636 Bible Church, where he served as an elder; and
3737 WHEREAS, Dick Murphy lived a life that was rich in personal
3838 and professional achievements, and he will forever be a source of
3939 inspiration to those he leaves behind; now, therefore, be it
4040 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
4141 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Richard Camp Murphy
4242 and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of his family: to his
4343 wife, Nancy Murphy; to his children, Glee Pugh and her husband,
4444 Clint, Bob Murphy and his wife, Yvette, and Jessica Jenkins and her
4545 husband, Scot; to his grandchildren, Matt Pugh and his wife,
4646 Rebecca, Sarah Pugh, David Pugh and his wife, Wendy, Lauren Murphy,
4747 Henley Murphy, Natalie Williams and her husband, Carl, Amanda Tapp
4848 and her husband, Casey, and Joe Nixon; to his great-grandchildren,
4949 Camp, Jax, and Rachel Pugh and Winry and Alphonse Tapp; to his
5050 sister, Suzanne Lewis, and her husband, Neil; and to his other
5151 relatives and friends; now, therefore, be it
5252 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5353 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
5454 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dick
5555 Murphy.
