5	5	WHEREAS, Family and friends will long cherish their memories
6	6	of Richard Camp Murphy of Kaufman, who passed away on July 29, 2022,
7	7	at the age of 84; and
8	8	WHEREAS, Born in Dallas on September 17, 1937, Dick Murphy
9	9	was the son of Bonneau and Glieth Murphy, and he grew up with the
10	10	companionship of a sister, Suzanne; after spending his formative
11	11	years in Kentucky and Pennsylvania, he graduated from the Webb
12	12	School in Tennessee; he went on to earn a bachelor's degree in
13	13	philosophy from DePauw University and a master's degree from the
14	14	Rutgers University Graduate School of Accounting; and
15	15	WHEREAS, Mr. Murphy began his career in New York City at
16	16	Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. and later transferred to the Dallas
17	17	area, where he was eventually named a junior partner; after 15 years
18	18	at that firm, he became president of Dallas General Life Insurance
19	19	Company and worked there for two decades; and
20	20	WHEREAS, A resident of Cottonwood for more than 40 years,
21	21	Mr. Murphy was elected to two terms as Kaufman County tax
22	22	assessor-collector and served as a municipal judge; he further
23	23	benefited his fellow citizens as a member of several community
24	24	boards and the Kaufman Lions Club; his passion for ranching led him
25	25	to cofound the Calvin A. Sloan Memorial Fund, which supports the
26	26	Kaufman County Junior Livestock Show; he also loved fishing and was
27	27	the owner of the Billy Bass Lure Co.; and
28	28	WHEREAS, Above all, Mr. Murphy was devoted to his family; he
29	29	shared a fulfilling marriage of 64 years with his wife, Nancy, and
30	30	he took great pride in their three children, Glee, Bob, and Jessica;
31	31	with the passing years, he had the pleasure of seeing his family
32	32	grow to include nine grandchildren, Matt, Sarah, David, Lauren,
33	33	Henley, Natalie, Amanda, Joe, and the late Rachel Dawn Pugh, as well
34	34	as six great-grandchildren, Camp, Jax, Rachel, Winry, Alphonse, and
35	35	the late Felicity Tapp; a man of faith, he helped found Country
36	36	Bible Church, where he served as an elder; and
37	37	WHEREAS, Dick Murphy lived a life that was rich in personal
38	38	and professional achievements, and he will forever be a source of
39	39	inspiration to those he leaves behind; now, therefore, be it
40	40	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
41	41	Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Richard Camp Murphy
42	42	and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of his family: to his
43	43	wife, Nancy Murphy; to his children, Glee Pugh and her husband,
44	44	Clint, Bob Murphy and his wife, Yvette, and Jessica Jenkins and her
45	45	husband, Scot; to his grandchildren, Matt Pugh and his wife,
46	46	Rebecca, Sarah Pugh, David Pugh and his wife, Wendy, Lauren Murphy,
47	47	Henley Murphy, Natalie Williams and her husband, Carl, Amanda Tapp
48	48	and her husband, Casey, and Joe Nixon; to his great-grandchildren,
49	49	Camp, Jax, and Rachel Pugh and Winry and Alphonse Tapp; to his
50	50	sister, Suzanne Lewis, and her husband, Neil; and to his other
51	51	relatives and friends; now, therefore, be it
52	52	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
53	53	prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
54	54	Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dick
55	55	Murphy.
