| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Deputy Darren Almendarez of the Harris County |

| 6 | 6 | | Sheriff's Office was killed on March 31, 2022, at the age of 51, and |

| 7 | 7 | | his untimely passing was a tragic loss to his family, to his agency, |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | and to his community; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Darren Almendarez was born on August 15, 1970, to |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Abraham Almendarez Sr. and Mary Helen Martinez, and he enjoyed the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | companionship of his nine siblings; a graduate of Austin High |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | School, he continued his education at Houston Community College and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | San Jacinto College; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, In 1999, Mr. Almendarez graduated from the Harris |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | County Sheriff's Office Police Academy; he subsequently embarked on |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | an outstanding 23-year career with the HCSO, initially working as a |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | District 3 patrol officer and as a field training officer; a |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | certified instructor and master peace officer, he went on to serve |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | as an investigator for the Multi-Agency Gang Task Force and the Auto |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Theft Task Force; over the course of his tenure with the agency, he |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | made a special effort to support victims and to help people in need; |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Deputy Almendarez benefited |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | from the love and support of his wife, Flor, and he took great pride |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | in his three children, Andrea, Kayla, and Danny; he also adored his |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | pets, Nico, Bambi, Dale, Pippa, Stella, and Petunia; an avid |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | football fan, he rooted for the Houston Texans and the Dallas |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Cowboys, and he enjoyed pursuing his passions for saltwater |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | fishing, traveling, barbecuing, and woodworking; and |

| 30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Embodying the highest ideals of the law enforcement |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | profession, Deputy Darren Almendarez served his community and his |

| 32 | 32 | | state with compassion, integrity, and honor, and although he is |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | gone, his dedication and sacrifice will never be forgotten; now, |

| 35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

| 36 | 36 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Deputy Darren |

| 38 | 38 | | family: to his wife, Flor M. Zarzoza Almendarez; to his daughters, |
