| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, San Antonio lost an admired civic leader with the |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | passing of John William Hayes on January 17, 2023, at the age of 63; |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The son of Alice Inez Head and Elmer Stanton Hayes, |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | John Hayes was born in Dallas on May 17, 1959; he attended Texas |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Tech University and embarked on a career in the oil and gas |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | industry, rising to become president of Activa Resources; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Hayes was deeply committed to helping others, |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | and he served as chair of the San Antonio Area Foundation and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Santikos Enterprises; as a founding member of the board of the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Somerset ISD Education Foundation, he worked diligently for the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | betterment of an underserved school district; he was also a member |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | of the boards of City Education Partners and San Antonio Citizens |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Federal Credit Union; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Above all, Mr. Hayes was devoted to his family; he |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | shared a fulfilling marriage with his wife, Amy, and he took great |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | pride in their daughter, Hayden; with a larger-than-life |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | personality and keen interest in others, he had a gift for making |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | everyone around him feel special; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Hayes was sustained by a strong faith from an |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | early age, and in his youth, he traveled with a Christian singing |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | group; profoundly appreciative of all his blessings, he wrote |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | thoughtful notes for his "gratitude jar," and he met life's |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | challenges, including cancer, with determination and grace; in his |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | free time, he enjoyed music and theater, and he delighted in |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | attending Phantom of the Opera with his daughter, listening to |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | gospel music and Luther Vandross, and watching sentimental Hallmark |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | movies; recently, he had taken up pickleball and played |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | enthusiastically with his friends at San Antonio Country Club; and |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, John Hayes lived a caring and purposeful life |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | centered around his family, his faith, and his community, and |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | although he will be deeply missed by those he left behind, he will |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | forever hold a special place in their hearts; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of John William Hayes |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | wife, Amy Carr Hayes; to his daughter, Hayden Reese Hayes; to his |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | siblings, Stan Hayes, Connie Swain, and Cricket Lee; to his |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | brothers-in-law, Andy and Greg Carr; and to his other relatives and |
|---|
| 44 | 44 | | many friends; and, be it further |

| 45 | 45 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

|---|
