5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Sergeant Major Timothy C. Cummings is retiring from |

6 | 6 | | the Texas State Guard on April 22, 2023, drawing to a close an |

7 | 7 | | exceptional career with the military branch that has spanned more |
---|
8 | 8 | | than two decades; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Sergeant Major Cummings currently serves as chief of |
---|
10 | 10 | | force sustainment and chief of the engineers staff, titles he has |
---|
11 | 11 | | held since January 2021; previously, he was the G3 Operations |
---|
12 | 12 | | noncommissioned officer in charge, 1st Brigade, the battalion |
---|
13 | 13 | | senior enlisted advisor for the Engineer Regiment, and the military |
---|
14 | 14 | | district coordinator; he also completed an assignment as a deputy |
---|
15 | 15 | | S-3 for the Engineer Group; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Initially entering active duty in September 2001, |
---|
17 | 17 | | Sergeant Major Cummings has also served as battle captain for a |
---|
18 | 18 | | COVID-19 response mission and deployed during a number of natural |
---|
19 | 19 | | disasters, including Hurricanes Laura, Harvey, Ike, Gustav, and |
---|
20 | 20 | | Dolly; moreover, he held the roles of branch chief and coast guard |
---|
21 | 21 | | liaison for the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Emergency Management and |
---|
22 | 22 | | Disaster Response Directorate; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Sergeant Major Cummings has been honored as a Texas |
---|
24 | 24 | | State Guardsman of the Year by the U.S. Air and Space Forces |
---|
25 | 25 | | Association, and he has received numerous other accolades as well; |
---|
26 | 26 | | among them are the Department of Homeland Security Outstanding Unit |
---|
27 | 27 | | Award, two Texas Medals of Merit, two Texas State Guard Meritorious |
---|
28 | 28 | | Service Medals, three Commanding General's Individual Awards, the |
---|
29 | 29 | | Texas Humanitarian Service Ribbon, the Lone Star Distinguished |
---|
30 | 30 | | Service Medal, the Homeland Defense Medal, and two Texas Faithful |
---|
31 | 31 | | Service Medals; and |
---|
32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, The dedication, professionalism, and devotion to |
---|
33 | 33 | | duty demonstrated by Timothy Cummings have greatly benefited the |
---|
34 | 34 | | citizens of the Lone Star State and earned him the respect and |
---|
35 | 35 | | admiration of his peers, and he may indeed reflect with pride on his |
---|
36 | 36 | | outstanding record of service as he embarks on the next exciting |
---|
37 | 37 | | chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it |

38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

39 | 39 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Sergeant Major Timothy C. Cummings |
