55 WHEREAS, Recovery Day at the State Capitol is taking place on
66 April 5, 2023, providing a fitting opportunity to recognize
77 addiction professionals for their many contributions to the health
88 and well-being of Texas residents; and
99 WHEREAS, Addiction professionals work to prevent, treat, and
1010 support recovery from substance use disorders through
1111 evidence-based services, such as intervention programs, peer
1212 support, and educational initiatives; these skilled individuals
1313 have demonstrated a steadfast commitment to the highest standards
1414 of their profession, and they have played an instrumental role in
1515 local communities' response to the opioid crisis; and
1616 WHEREAS, Today, the addiction professional workforce
1717 encompasses more than 100,000 counselors, educators, peer
1818 specialists, and other health care personnel; moreover, addiction
1919 professionals work in a wide variety of settings, including
2020 outpatient care centers, mental health and substance use disorder
2121 facilities, general medicine and surgical hospitals, clinics,
2222 prisons, probation agencies, juvenile detention facilities,
2323 recovery housing, recovery community centers, and detoxification
2424 centers; and
2525 WHEREAS, Through their dedicated efforts, addiction
2626 professionals are helping to improve the quality of life for
2727 numerous people in the Lone Star State, and they are deserving of
2828 their fellow citizens' deep respect and appreciation; now,
2929 therefore, be it
3030 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
3131 Legislature hereby recognize April 5, 2023, as Recovery Day at the
3232 State Capitol and commend all addiction professionals for their
3333 contributions.
