| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Wesley Community Center celebrated its 80th |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | anniversary on October 18, 2022, providing a fitting opportunity to |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | pay tribute to the nonprofit's outstanding contributions to the |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Coastal Bend community; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, In 1942, the Wesley Community Center was founded in |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Robstown by the Women's Society of Christian Service of the First |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | United Methodist Church to serve vulnerable children in the area; |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | the organization opened a second location in Corpus Christi in |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | 2001, and today, its learning centers annually serve more than 325 |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | children ranging in age from two weeks to 12 years old and offer day |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | care, tutoring and homework assistance, and health and wellness |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | checkups; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, The Wesley Community Center also established a |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Mother and Child Home at its Corpus Christi facility to provide safe |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | and permanent housing that allows mothers and their children to |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | remain a cohesive family unit; the organization also operates food |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | pantries for low-income and homeless individuals at both of its |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | locations; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Over the past eight decades, the Wesley Community |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Center has made a positive difference in the lives of countless |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | individuals and families, and its longevity is a tribute to the |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | dedication of its leadership and staff, past and present; now, |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature hereby congratulate the Wesley Community Center on its |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | 80th anniversary and extend to all those associated with the |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | organization sincere best wishes for continued success in their |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | important work; and, be it further |

| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
