| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The University of Texas at Dallas moot court team |

| 6 | 6 | | achieved great distinction with its second-place finish at the |

| 7 | 7 | | American Moot Court Association National Tournament, held on |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | January 14 and 15, 2023, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The AMCA National Tournament is an intercollegiate |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | moot court competition that simulates appellate oral arguments |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | before the U.S. Supreme Court, with teams of two undergraduate |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | students arguing various points of view on hypothetical cases; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Serving on the UT Dallas team were Olivia Cooper and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Paulina Hruskoci, both seniors in the School of Economic, Political |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | and Policy Sciences; competing against 80 teams from across the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | nation, the duo prepared an overview of their constitutional law |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | issue and defended their stance to a panel of judges, and throughout |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | their arguments, they demonstrated quick thinking, strong public |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | speaking skills, and an impressive proficiency with the assigned |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | cases; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Coached by Dr. Barbara Kirby and Jody Joiner, the UT |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Dallas moot court team prepared diligently for the competition, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | researching, reading, and briefing a number of cases; the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | second-place finish is the best in the program's history and has |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | provided the university with national recognition; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, The exceptional performance of the UT Dallas moot |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | court team reflects its members' skill, dedication, and commitment |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | to excellence, and all those associated with the team may take |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | justifiable pride in this outstanding accomplishment; now, |

| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

| 32 | 32 | | Legislature hereby congratulate The University of Texas at Dallas |
