| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Jaime Esparza was sworn in as the United States |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | attorney for the Western District of Texas on December 9, 2022; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, A distinguished prosecutor with four decades of |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | experience, Mr. Esparza served as district attorney for the 34th |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Judicial District of Texas from 1993 to 2020; he gained recognition |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | for the creation of the Domestic Violence 24-hour Project, which |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | supports victims and raises awareness of domestic abuse; in |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | addition, he reduced arrests by 20 percent and saved El Paso County |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | millions of dollars through the introduction of the District |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Attorney Information Management System; named Prosecutor of the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Year by the State Bar of Texas in 2005, he is also the recipient of |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | the 2015 National Mothers Against Drunk Driving President's Award |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | for Outstanding Criminal Justice Prosecutor; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Esparza began his career as an assistant |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | district attorney in Harris County in 1983; subsequently, he served |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | as an assistant district attorney for the 34th Judicial District of |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Texas and as first assistant public defender in the El Paso County |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Public Defender's Office; in 1992, he became assistant county |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | attorney for El Paso County; he holds a bachelor's degree in |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | business administration from The University of Texas at Austin and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | a juris doctor degree from the University of Houston Law Center; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, An admired prosecutor and a dynamic leader, Jaime |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Esparza has devoted his career to the administration of justice, |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | and his exciting new role provides an opportunity for him to make an |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | even greater positive impact in the lives of his fellow Texans; now, |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | therefore, be it |

| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Jaime Esparza on his appointment as |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | United States attorney for the Western District of Texas and extend |

| 34 | 34 | | to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
