| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, April 7, 2023, marks the celebration of Good Friday, |

| 6 | 6 | | an important day in the Christian Holy Week; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Good Friday, which takes place on the last Friday |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | before Easter, commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | only begotten Son of God; according to the Holy Scriptures, Jesus |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | was arrested in the Garden of Gethsemane, scourged, crowned with |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | thorns, and carried the cross to Calvary where He was crucified, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | offering Himself for the salvation of all mankind; on Easter |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Sunday, he was risen from the tomb; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Today, many Christians observe Good Friday by |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | fasting or abstaining from eating meat, attending special church |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | services, and taking time for solemn reflection; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Good Friday is a sacred day on the Christian |

| 18 | 18 | | calendar, and it is a pleasure to join in recognizing this important |

| 19 | 19 | | observance; now, therefore, be it |

| 20 | 20 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

| 21 | 21 | | Legislature hereby commemorate Good Friday in 2023. |
