55 WHEREAS, April 9, 2023, marks the celebration of Easter,
66 which is considered the most holy day of the year in the Christian
77 faith; and
88 WHEREAS, Known also as Resurrection Day, Easter is a time
99 when people around the globe recognize the day that Jesus Christ,
1010 the only begotten Son of God, rose from the grave and reflect with
1111 joy on the gospel's enduring message of hope in the resurrection;
1212 and
1313 WHEREAS, In the weeks before the sacred event, many
1414 Christians observe a 40-day period of fasting and prayer, known as
1515 Lent; Holy Week then commemorates Christ's final days before His
1616 crucifixion by Roman authorities, remembered solemnly on Good
1717 Friday and followed by Easter Sunday; and
1818 WHEREAS, Many families and loved ones gather together during
1919 this special time to worship and to express gratitude for the
2020 miracle of Christ's resurrection; the festivities symbolize new
2121 life, hope for the future, salvation for all mankind, and hope in
2222 the resurrection at the final judgement; and
2323 WHEREAS, Observed for nearly 2,000 years, the Easter holiday
2424 ushers in the Easter season, a period of joy and renewal, signifying
2525 one of the fundamental pillars of faith for the Christian
2626 community, the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ; now, therefore,
2727 be it
2828 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
2929 Legislature hereby commemorate Easter 2023.
