5	5	WHEREAS, The Parker County Sheriff's Posse is celebrating the
6	6	75th anniversary of its founding in 2023; and
7	7	WHEREAS, Established in Weatherford in 1947, the posse
8	8	adopted a charter outlining such goals as preserving traditions of
9	9	the Old West, promoting good sportsmanship, good horsemanship, and
10	10	civic engagement, and assisting the county sheriff; membership
11	11	quickly grew from 20 to 60, and the group held its first parade on
12	12	opening day of the 1947 Fort Worth Fat Stock Show; in addition, the
13	13	posse participated in several rodeos that year; it purchased 37
14	14	acres of land, and riders with stout lariats cleared away post oak,
15	15	mesquite, and an abandoned peach orchard; the clubhouse was
16	16	completed the following year, and the site has served as
17	17	headquarters ever since; and
18	18	WHEREAS, The posse formed an early affiliation with the
19	19	National Cutting Horse Association; after building an arena, which
20	20	would host the Frontier Days Rodeo and the area's first FFA Junior
21	21	Rodeo, PCSP continued to expand and improve its facilities; the
22	22	organization launched its annual trail ride to Mineral Wells in
23	23	1961; over the years, the posse participated in events across the
24	24	state and beyond, including the Battle of Flowers Parade in
25	25	San Antonio, the Texas State Fair in Dallas, the State Fair of
26	26	Louisiana in Shreveport, and the inaugural parade for Governor Mark
27	27	White; members brought home numerous trophies, among them three
28	28	first-place wins during the 50th anniversary year; and
29	29	WHEREAS, In 2006, the posse's Ranch Rodeo proved a tremendous
30	30	success, and it became an annual event; the next decade brought
31	31	invitations to the prestigious Frontier Days parade in Cheyenne,
32	32	Wyoming, where PCSP twice won the Outstanding Mounted Riding Group
33	33	award; as its activities have expanded in recent years, it has also
34	34	benefited a number of worthy causes, showing support for the
35	35	families of fallen officers, wounded warriors, and children in
36	36	need, as well as the Parker County Livestock Improvement
37	37	Association; and
38	38	WHEREAS, Over the course of its long history, the Parker
39	39	County Sheriff's Posse has brought the community together for a
40	40	host of memorable events and proudly represented Western heritage
41	41	in venues far and wide, and its continued existence is a tribute to
42	42	the great dedication of its members, past and present; now,
43	43	therefore, be it
44	44	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
45	45	Legislature hereby congratulate the Parker County Sheriff's Posse
46	46	on its 75th anniversary and extend to the members sincere best
47	47	wishes for the future; and, be it further
48	48	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
49	49	prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the
50	50	Texas House of Representatives.
