H.R. No. 973 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the passing of Roger Nealy on February 4, 2023, at the age of 87; and WHEREAS, The son of Wilmus and Wattie Nealy, Roger Nealy was born on March 18, 1935, in Teague, where he grew up alongside his 17 siblings; hard at work from a young age, he helped his family garden and raise pigs, cows, and chickens, and he played football and other sports at Booker T. Washington High School; and WHEREAS, Following his graduation in 1954, Mr. Nealy entered the food and beverage industry, working at various restaurants and clubs in Fort Worth; over the years, he managed several bars and served as a mixologist, and he played a vital role in integrating a number of places he managed; he later moved to Beaumont and started the D & R Days End Lounge, and after retiring in 1997, he devoted himself to real estate management; active in his community, he sponsored a baseball team and participated in Toys for Tots, and he also volunteered with Meals on Wheels and the B-RI Railroad Museum; and WHEREAS, Mr. Nealy married Doris Foreman Price, and together they created a blended family that included his children, Roger and Rogena, and her daughters, Ricarda, Lydia, and DeLisa; in his leisure time, Mr. Nealy enjoyed hunting and fishing; and WHEREAS, Those who were privileged to share in this esteemed man's love and friendship will always remember him with great admiration and affection; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Roger Nealy and extend heartfelt sympathy to all who mourn his passing; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Roger Nealy.
