| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | passing of Roger Nealy on February 4, 2023, at the age of 87; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, The son of Wilmus and Wattie Nealy, Roger Nealy was |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | born on March 18, 1935, in Teague, where he grew up alongside his 17 |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | siblings; hard at work from a young age, he helped his family garden |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | and raise pigs, cows, and chickens, and he played football and other |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | sports at Booker T. Washington High School; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Following his graduation in 1954, Mr. Nealy entered |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | the food and beverage industry, working at various restaurants and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | clubs in Fort Worth; over the years, he managed several bars and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | served as a mixologist, and he played a vital role in integrating a |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | number of places he managed; he later moved to Beaumont and started |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | the D & R Days End Lounge, and after retiring in 1997, he devoted |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | himself to real estate management; active in his community, he |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | sponsored a baseball team and participated in Toys for Tots, and he |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | also volunteered with Meals on Wheels and the B-RI Railroad Museum; |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Nealy married Doris Foreman Price, and together |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | they created a blended family that included his children, Roger and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Rogena, and her daughters, Ricarda, Lydia, and DeLisa; in his |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | leisure time, Mr. Nealy enjoyed hunting and fishing; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Those who were privileged to share in this esteemed |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | man's love and friendship will always remember him with great |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | admiration and affection; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Roger Nealy and extend |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | heartfelt sympathy to all who mourn his passing; and, be it further |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Roger |
|---|
