44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Long-term care nurses are dedicated to providing
66 specialized care over an extended period to individuals who are
77 living with disabilities or who are suffering from progressive or
88 chronic illnesses; and
99 WHEREAS, These highly skilled health care professionals are
1010 responsible for coordinating and assessing patient care, assisting
1111 patients with daily tasks, and working alongside medical and
1212 clinical staff to develop and implement plans to deliver quality
1313 care; their training as registered nurses qualifies them to perform
1414 procedures such as administering medications and operating medical
1515 equipment, and they serve as a source of education, emotional
1616 support, and guidance to patients, families, and caregivers alike;
1717 and
1818 WHEREAS, Long-term care nurses are highly valued for their
1919 ability to build meaningful long-term relationships with their
2020 patients, which helps them in recognizing a change in condition
2121 that nurses in other fields may not notice; day after day, these
2222 professionals are trusted by caregivers to keep their loved ones
2323 safe and healthy and to ensure that they are treated according to
2424 their unique health care needs; and
2525 WHEREAS, Careers in long-term nursing can be invaluably
2626 rewarding, while also offering professional growth and development
2727 opportunities that can serve nurses well in their future employment
2828 prospects; the demand for long-term care nurses is expected to grow
2929 dramatically in the decades to come as the U.S. population ages and
3030 the need for primary health care increases among all demographic
3131 groups; and
3232 WHEREAS, Long-term care nurses play an indispensable role in
3333 our health care system and in the lives of the patients and families
3434 who depend upon their services, and it is fitting that they be
3535 recognized for the skilled and compassionate care they provide;
3636 now, therefore, be it
3737 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
3838 Legislature hereby recognize April 6, 2023, as Long-Term Care
3939 Nurses Day at the State Capitol and commend the long-term care
4040 nurses who are practicing in our state for their outstanding
4141 commitment to their vocation and to the patients they serve.
