| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Director of bands Stephen Cox of Advanced Learning |

| 6 | 6 | | Academy and Fox Tech and CAST Tech High Schools in San Antonio was |

| 7 | 7 | | named the recipient of the 2022 Music Educator Award by the |

| 8 | 8 | | Recording Academy, the organization that confers the annual Grammy |

| 9 | 9 | | Awards; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Each year, the Recording Academy and the Grammy |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Museum recognize educators from across the United States who have |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | demonstrated a steadfast commitment to advancing the field of music |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | education; Mr. Cox was selected for the 2022 award out of more than |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | 1,100 nominees; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Prior to joining ALA and Fox Tech and CAST Tech High |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Schools, Mr. Cox served as the band director at Eastland High |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | School for 10 years; over the course of his career as an educator, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | he has distinguished himself as a caring and supportive mentor |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | while maintaining high expectations; he has made an extra effort to |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | incorporate his students' interests in lessons, and he has provided |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | them with opportunities to develop their leadership skills; in |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | addition, he helps connect students with the wider community by |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | coordinating public performances; under his able guidance, the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Eastland High band received numerous honors and advanced to |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | multiple state competitions; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Cox has further contributed to the fine arts |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | community by establishing the Eastland Jazz Festival, and he has |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | been a featured speaker at such events as the Texas Music Educators |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Association Convention, the Texas Bandmasters Association |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Convention, and the Midwest Clinic; his accolades include being |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | named one of 50 Directors Who Make a Difference by School Band and |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Orchestra magazine; he is a graduate of Howard Payne University; |

|---|
| 34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Stephen Cox has greatly enriched the lives of many |

| 35 | 35 | | young Texans through his passion for teaching and his extraordinary |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | expertise in music, and he is truly deserving of this national |

| 37 | 37 | | recognition; now, therefore, be it |

| 38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

| 39 | 39 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Stephen Cox on receiving the 2022 |

| 40 | 40 | | Music Educator Award from the Recording Academy and extend to him |

| 41 | 41 | | sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
