| 7 | 7 | | Physical Sciences from the Texas Academy of Medicine, Engineering, |

| 8 | 8 | | Science and Technology in May 2023; and |

| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Established in 2006, the O'Donnell Awards annually |

| 10 | 10 | | recognize Texas-based researchers who are addressing the essential |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | role that science and technology play in society, and whose work |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | meets the highest standards of professional performance, |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | creativity, and resourcefulness; honorees are selected in five |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | categories, medicine, engineering, biological sciences, physical |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | sciences, and technology innovation, and each award includes a |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | $25,000 honorarium as well as an invitation to present at TAMEST's |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | annual conference; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Erez Lieberman Aiden is being recognized for his |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | groundbreaking research on genomic 3D structures, which may one day |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | lead to treating diseases by targeting dark matter within the body; |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | he is working to apply his findings in clinical settings with the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | support of Baylor College of Medicine; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, A leading biophysical scientist, Mr. Liberman Aiden |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | is an associate professor of molecular and human genetics, an |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Emeritus McNair Scholar, and a member of the Dan L Duncan |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Comprehensive Cancer Center at Baylor College of Medicine; he has |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | further distinguished himself as an adjunct professor of computer |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | science and a senior scientist at the Center for Theoretical |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Biological Physics at Rice University; he holds doctorates from |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; |

| 32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Erez Lieberman Aiden's important research efforts |

| 33 | 33 | | have made a lasting, positive impact in his field, and he is truly |

| 34 | 34 | | deserving of this prestigious honor; now, therefore, be it |

| 35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
