| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Brandon Levin, an assistant professor of |

| 6 | 6 | | mathematics at Rice University, is the recipient of a 2022 CAREER |

| 7 | 7 | | Award from the Faculty Early Career Development Program of the |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | National Science Foundation; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Among the most prestigious honors conferred by NSF, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | CAREER Awards include five-year grants to support early-career |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | faculty who exemplify the highest ideals of their profession and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | who work to advance their organization's mission; each year, NSF |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | presents only about 500 awards across all disciplines; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Levin was selected to receive a CAREER award for |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | his research in number theory; using an arithmetic analogue of |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Hodge theory, he has introduced new geometric structures that could |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | help shed light on unsolved problems in the field; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Currently, Mr. Levin is the director of the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Southwest Center for Arithmetic Geometry; moreover, he serves as |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | the principal investigator for the most recent NSF grant that is |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | funding the Arizona Winter School, a graduate student training |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | program in number theory; the yearly five-day conference brings |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | together some 300 researchers, including 200 Ph.D. students; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Through his outstanding work at Rice University, |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Brandon Levin has distinguished himself as an inspiring leader and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | an innovative researcher, and he may reflect with pride on this |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | well-deserved recognition; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Brandon Levin on receiving a 2022 |
