H.R. No. 981 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Dr. Lauren Stadler, an assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering at Rice University, is the recipient of a 2022 CAREER Award from the Faculty Early Career Development Program of the National Science Foundation; and WHEREAS, Among the most prestigious honors conferred by NSF, CAREER Awards include five-year grants to support early-career faculty who exemplify the highest ideals of their profession and who work to advance their organization's mission; each year, NSF presents only about 500 awards across all disciplines; and WHEREAS, Dr. Stadler was selected to receive a CAREER award and a grant totaling more than $550,000 for her research on engineering environmental microbiomes to improve wastewater treatment processes; and WHEREAS, A graduate of Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania, Dr. Stadler earned her master's degree and her Ph.D. in environmental engineering from the University of Michigan; she joined the faculty of Rice University in 2016, and in addition to conducting research with that institution, she has worked with the City of Houston to monitor wastewater for SARS-CoV-2, influenza, and other viruses, helping to inform public health decisions; and WHEREAS, Through her outstanding work at Rice University, Dr. Lauren Stadler has distinguished herself as an inspiring leader and an innovative researcher, and she may reflect with pride on this well-deserved recognition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Lauren Stadler on receiving a 2022 CAREER Award from the Faculty Early Career Development Program of the National Science Foundation and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success in her important work; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Dr. Stadler as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
