44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the
66 passing of Fred Meyers of Bridgeport on March 26, 2023, at the age
77 of 71; and
88 WHEREAS, The son of Howard and Martha Meyers, Fred Meyers was
99 born in Olney on September 10, 1951, and he grew up with the
1010 companionship of three siblings, Jimmy, Cathy, and Susie; he
1111 graduated from Bridgeport High School in 1970 and went on to earn a
1212 bachelor's degree from Tarleton State University; and
1313 WHEREAS, After college, Mr. Meyers returned home to
1414 Bridgeport and began working at his family's insurance company; he
1515 went on to own his own business for many years; and
1616 WHEREAS, Mr. Meyers was very active in the Bridgeport
1717 community; he gave generously of his time to numerous organizations
1818 and boards, including the Bridgeport Lions Club, the Masonic Lodge
1919 of Bridgeport, and the Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone board, and
2020 he held leadership positions with the Bridgeport Chamber of
2121 Commerce, the Bridgeport Economic Development Corporation board,
2222 and the Bridgeport Planning and Zoning Commission; in recognition
2323 of his many contributions, he was named Bridgeport Citizen of the
2424 Year in 1980 and was inducted into the Bridgeport High School Wall
2525 of Fame; moreover, he was a valued member of First Presbyterian
2626 Church of Bridgeport, where he served as an elder; and
2727 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Meyers enjoyed the love
2828 and support of his wife, Cindy, with whom he shared 50 years of
2929 marriage; he was the proud father of two children, Matt and
3030 Meredith, and with the passing years, he had the pleasure of
3131 watching his family grow to include five grandchildren, Averie,
3232 Jace, Jack, Bransen, and Colt; in his leisure time, he enjoyed
3333 hunting, golfing, attending his grandchildren's events, and
3434 cheering on the Chicago Bulls; and
3535 WHEREAS, Fred Meyers lived a life that was rich in family,
3636 friends, and community service, and those who were privileged to
3737 share in his love and affection will forever hold him close in their
3838 hearts; now, therefore, be it
3939 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
4040 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Fred Meyers and extend
4141 sincere condolences to his loved ones; and, be it further
4242 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4343 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4444 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Fred
4545 Meyers.
