5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the |
---|
6 | 6 | | passing of Fred Meyers of Bridgeport on March 26, 2023, at the age |
---|
7 | 7 | | of 71; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The son of Howard and Martha Meyers, Fred Meyers was |
---|
9 | 9 | | born in Olney on September 10, 1951, and he grew up with the |
---|
10 | 10 | | companionship of three siblings, Jimmy, Cathy, and Susie; he |
---|
11 | 11 | | graduated from Bridgeport High School in 1970 and went on to earn a |
---|
12 | 12 | | bachelor's degree from Tarleton State University; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, After college, Mr. Meyers returned home to |
---|
14 | 14 | | Bridgeport and began working at his family's insurance company; he |
---|
15 | 15 | | went on to own his own business for many years; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Meyers was very active in the Bridgeport |
---|
17 | 17 | | community; he gave generously of his time to numerous organizations |
---|
18 | 18 | | and boards, including the Bridgeport Lions Club, the Masonic Lodge |
---|
19 | 19 | | of Bridgeport, and the Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone board, and |
---|
20 | 20 | | he held leadership positions with the Bridgeport Chamber of |
---|
21 | 21 | | Commerce, the Bridgeport Economic Development Corporation board, |
---|
22 | 22 | | and the Bridgeport Planning and Zoning Commission; in recognition |
---|
23 | 23 | | of his many contributions, he was named Bridgeport Citizen of the |
---|
24 | 24 | | Year in 1980 and was inducted into the Bridgeport High School Wall |
---|
25 | 25 | | of Fame; moreover, he was a valued member of First Presbyterian |
---|
26 | 26 | | Church of Bridgeport, where he served as an elder; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Meyers enjoyed the love |
---|
28 | 28 | | and support of his wife, Cindy, with whom he shared 50 years of |
---|
29 | 29 | | marriage; he was the proud father of two children, Matt and |
---|
30 | 30 | | Meredith, and with the passing years, he had the pleasure of |
---|
31 | 31 | | watching his family grow to include five grandchildren, Averie, |
---|
32 | 32 | | Jace, Jack, Bransen, and Colt; in his leisure time, he enjoyed |
---|
33 | 33 | | hunting, golfing, attending his grandchildren's events, and |
---|
34 | 34 | | cheering on the Chicago Bulls; and |
---|
35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Fred Meyers lived a life that was rich in family, |
---|
36 | 36 | | friends, and community service, and those who were privileged to |
---|
37 | 37 | | share in his love and affection will forever hold him close in their |
---|
38 | 38 | | hearts; now, therefore, be it |
---|
39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
40 | 40 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Fred Meyers and extend |
---|
41 | 41 | | sincere condolences to his loved ones; and, be it further |
---|
42 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
---|
43 | 43 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
---|
44 | 44 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Fred |
---|
45 | 45 | | Meyers. |
