No. 99 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The citizens of Kaufman County lost a respected public servant with the death of Brenda Samples of Terrell on May 26, 2022, at the age of 70; and WHEREAS, The daughter of John R. and Melba Dix, the former Brenda Dix was born on October 26, 1951, in Macomb, Illinois, and she grew up with four siblings, Bill, Richard, Steve, and Kathy; while in high school, she met the love of her life, Hobert Samples; the couple wed in 1968, and they shared a fulfilling union that spanned more than a half century; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Samples earned her cosmetology license and worked as a hairstylist at Lavender Beauty Salon for several years before opening her own salon, Hair & Co.; she subsequently embarked on a second career in real estate, listing and selling homes in cities throughout Kaufman County; she earned numerous awards along the way, including being named Best Realtor in Terrell multiple times, and after more than 35 years in the business, she retired as a broker associate for Coldwell Banker Apex; and WHEREAS, Deeply dedicated to her community, Mrs. Samples was elected Kaufman County tax assessor-collector in 2016 and won reelection in 2020; she was also an active supporter of many local charities and contributed her time and talents to the Kiwanis Club of Terrell, the Terrell Chamber of Commerce, the Volunteer Services Council of Terrell State Hospital, and the Kaufman Lions Club; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Samples was the devoted mother of two children, Rusty and Wendi; she had the pleasure of becoming "Nana" to her three grandchildren, Jamie, Tyler, and Kayla, as well as her seven great-grandchildren, Cooper, Bryleigh, Stella Jane, Oaklee, Connor, Damien, and Austin; she especially enjoyed supporting them at their scouting functions and their sporting and cheerleading events; and WHEREAS, Although Brenda Samples is greatly missed, memories of her dedicated service to others and her radiant smile will forever be cherished by those she leaves behind; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Brenda Samples and extend deepest condolences to all who mourn her passing; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Brenda Samples.
