5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The citizens of Kaufman County lost a respected |
---|
6 | 6 | | public servant with the death of Brenda Samples of Terrell on |
---|
7 | 7 | | May 26, 2022, at the age of 70; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The daughter of John R. and Melba Dix, the former |
---|
9 | 9 | | Brenda Dix was born on October 26, 1951, in Macomb, Illinois, and |
---|
10 | 10 | | she grew up with four siblings, Bill, Richard, Steve, and Kathy; |
---|
11 | 11 | | while in high school, she met the love of her life, Hobert Samples; |
---|
12 | 12 | | the couple wed in 1968, and they shared a fulfilling union that |
---|
13 | 13 | | spanned more than a half century; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Samples earned her cosmetology license and |
---|
15 | 15 | | worked as a hairstylist at Lavender Beauty Salon for several years |
---|
16 | 16 | | before opening her own salon, Hair & Co.; she subsequently embarked |
---|
17 | 17 | | on a second career in real estate, listing and selling homes in |
---|
18 | 18 | | cities throughout Kaufman County; she earned numerous awards along |
---|
19 | 19 | | the way, including being named Best Realtor in Terrell multiple |
---|
20 | 20 | | times, and after more than 35 years in the business, she retired as |
---|
21 | 21 | | a broker associate for Coldwell Banker Apex; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Deeply dedicated to her community, Mrs. Samples was |
---|
23 | 23 | | elected Kaufman County tax assessor-collector in 2016 and won |
---|
24 | 24 | | reelection in 2020; she was also an active supporter of many local |
---|
25 | 25 | | charities and contributed her time and talents to the Kiwanis Club |
---|
26 | 26 | | of Terrell, the Terrell Chamber of Commerce, the Volunteer Services |
---|
27 | 27 | | Council of Terrell State Hospital, and the Kaufman Lions Club; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Samples was the devoted mother of two children, |
---|
29 | 29 | | Rusty and Wendi; she had the pleasure of becoming "Nana" to her |
---|
30 | 30 | | three grandchildren, Jamie, Tyler, and Kayla, as well as her seven |
---|
31 | 31 | | great-grandchildren, Cooper, Bryleigh, Stella Jane, Oaklee, |
---|
32 | 32 | | Connor, Damien, and Austin; she especially enjoyed supporting them |
---|
33 | 33 | | at their scouting functions and their sporting and cheerleading |
---|
34 | 34 | | events; and |
---|
35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Although Brenda Samples is greatly missed, memories |
---|
36 | 36 | | of her dedicated service to others and her radiant smile will |
---|
37 | 37 | | forever be cherished by those she leaves behind; now, therefore, be |
---|
38 | 38 | | it |
---|
39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
40 | 40 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Brenda Samples and |
---|
41 | 41 | | extend deepest condolences to all who mourn her passing; and, be it |
---|
42 | 42 | | further |

43 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

44 | 44 | | prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
---|
45 | 45 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Brenda |
