44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, The citizens of Kaufman County lost a respected
66 public servant with the death of Brenda Samples of Terrell on
77 May 26, 2022, at the age of 70; and
88 WHEREAS, The daughter of John R. and Melba Dix, the former
99 Brenda Dix was born on October 26, 1951, in Macomb, Illinois, and
1010 she grew up with four siblings, Bill, Richard, Steve, and Kathy;
1111 while in high school, she met the love of her life, Hobert Samples;
1212 the couple wed in 1968, and they shared a fulfilling union that
1313 spanned more than a half century; and
1414 WHEREAS, Mrs. Samples earned her cosmetology license and
1515 worked as a hairstylist at Lavender Beauty Salon for several years
1616 before opening her own salon, Hair & Co.; she subsequently embarked
1717 on a second career in real estate, listing and selling homes in
1818 cities throughout Kaufman County; she earned numerous awards along
1919 the way, including being named Best Realtor in Terrell multiple
2020 times, and after more than 35 years in the business, she retired as
2121 a broker associate for Coldwell Banker Apex; and
2222 WHEREAS, Deeply dedicated to her community, Mrs. Samples was
2323 elected Kaufman County tax assessor-collector in 2016 and won
2424 reelection in 2020; she was also an active supporter of many local
2525 charities and contributed her time and talents to the Kiwanis Club
2626 of Terrell, the Terrell Chamber of Commerce, the Volunteer Services
2727 Council of Terrell State Hospital, and the Kaufman Lions Club; and
2828 WHEREAS, Mrs. Samples was the devoted mother of two children,
2929 Rusty and Wendi; she had the pleasure of becoming "Nana" to her
3030 three grandchildren, Jamie, Tyler, and Kayla, as well as her seven
3131 great-grandchildren, Cooper, Bryleigh, Stella Jane, Oaklee,
3232 Connor, Damien, and Austin; she especially enjoyed supporting them
3333 at their scouting functions and their sporting and cheerleading
3434 events; and
3535 WHEREAS, Although Brenda Samples is greatly missed, memories
3636 of her dedicated service to others and her radiant smile will
3737 forever be cherished by those she leaves behind; now, therefore, be
3838 it
3939 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
4040 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Brenda Samples and
4141 extend deepest condolences to all who mourn her passing; and, be it
4242 further
4343 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4444 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
4545 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Brenda
4646 Samples.
