44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the
66 passing of Will Martin Jr. of Victoria on January 6, 2023, at the
77 age of 74; and
88 WHEREAS, Will Martin was born in Wharton on August 12, 1948,
99 to George and Sarah Wleczyk, and he grew up with two siblings,
1010 Juanita and Elizabeth; after graduating from Victoria High School,
1111 he joined the U.S. Navy Construction Battalion as a steel worker; he
1212 attained the rank of petty officer third class, and he served with
1313 the U.S. Marine Corps and underwater demolition teams on tactical
1414 missions; over the course of his civilian career, he was a senior
1515 draftsman and mapmaker for the Golden Crescent Regional Planning
1616 Commission, a geologist for Continental Laboratories, and a sales
1717 consultant for Wholesale Tire Company in Victoria; and
1818 WHEREAS, Widely known for his advocacy work, Mr. Martin
1919 served as a commander of both Navy Seabee Veterans of America and
2020 American Legion Post No. 166, and he was involved with such
2121 organizations as Vietnam Veterans of America and Military Veterans
2222 and Patriots; moreover, he was appointed chair of the American
2323 Legion Department of Texas Legislative Commission, and he was the
2424 executive director of Conservative Texans for Charitable Bingo; and
2525 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Martin enjoyed the love
2626 and support of his wife, Marilyn, with whom he shared 30 years; he
2727 was the devoted father of four children, Melodie, Sonya, Mancie,
2828 Tyler, and a stepson, Chad, and he also took great pride in his 11
2929 grandchildren; his favorite leisure pursuits included football,
3030 hunting, and fishing; and
3131 WHEREAS, Deeply dedicated to his family, his community, and
3232 his country, Will Martin earned the lasting respect and admiration
3333 of all who were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it
3434 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
3535 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Will Martin Jr. and
3636 extend heartfelt condolences to the members of his family: to his
3737 wife, Marilyn Martin; to his children, Melodie Hall and her
3838 husband, Lloyd, Sonya Talley and her husband, Mark, Mancie Beck and
3939 her husband, Bill, and Tyler Neese and his wife, Emily Green; to his
4040 stepson, Chad Neese, and his wife, Jenifer; to his sister,
4141 Elizabeth Ward, and her husband, James; to his grandchildren,
4242 Brandon Griffith, Danielle, Chloe, and Caden Luna, Becca and Sammie
4343 Talley, Brodie and Coby Beck, Lizzy Neese, and Jessie and Jayden
4444 Burton; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further
4545 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4646 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4747 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Will
4848 Martin.
