44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, The passing of Claud Barton Jacobs on February 27,
66 2023, at the age of 80, concluded a remarkable life of service to
77 the Victoria community; and
88 WHEREAS, Born in Yoakum on July 14, 1942, Claud Jacobs was the
99 son of Claud John Jacobs and Anna Rose Barton Jacobs; he graduated
1010 from St. Joseph High School in 1960 and went on to earn a bachelor's
1111 degree from The University of Texas at Austin, where he was senior
1212 class president; and
1313 WHEREAS, Mr. Jacobs embarked on a 45-year career in insurance
1414 and financial services in 1964, and he eventually went into
1515 business for himself, forming Jacobs Insurance, which became
1616 Jacobs-Weber Insurance; he was later a founding partner of
1717 LodeStone Financial Services; and
1818 WHEREAS, In 1972, Mr. Jacobs helped establish Bluebonnet
1919 Youth Ranch, a private care facility and long-term residential home
2020 for mothers and families in need; over the years, it has housed more
2121 than 600 children, and he had an active role with the organization,
2222 helping raise millions of dollars at its annual golf tournament
2323 fundraiser and serving as a house parent, cook, and tour guide;
2424 along the way, he helped start an endowment fund for the University
2525 of Houston-Victoria athletic program and gave generously of his
2626 time and talents to several charitable organizations, including the
2727 Boy Scouts Troop 110 of Victoria; he was recognized as a Knight of
2828 St. Gregory by Pope John Paul II for outstanding community service
2929 and received the South Texas Council of Boy Scouts of America
3030 Distinguished Citizen Award in 2018; and
3131 WHEREAS, Mr. Jacobs married Mary Virginia Mason in Kerrville
3232 on June 6, 1964, and the couple shared a fulfilling marriage that
3333 spanned nearly six decades; he took great pride in his children,
3434 Todd and Tonya, and his grandchildren, Zachary and Jenna; and
3535 WHEREAS, An engaged citizen, a devoted family man, and an
3636 admired business leader, Claud Jacobs lived a rich and purposeful
3737 life, and he will forever be remembered with deep affection by those
3838 who knew and loved him; now, therefore, be it
3939 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
4040 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Claud Barton Jacobs
4141 and extend heartfelt sympathy to his family and friends; and, be it
4242 further
4343 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4444 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4545 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Claud
4646 Jacobs.
