5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The passing of Claud Barton Jacobs on February 27, |

6 | 6 | | 2023, at the age of 80, concluded a remarkable life of service to |
---|
7 | 7 | | the Victoria community; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born in Yoakum on July 14, 1942, Claud Jacobs was the |
---|
9 | 9 | | son of Claud John Jacobs and Anna Rose Barton Jacobs; he graduated |
---|
10 | 10 | | from St. Joseph High School in 1960 and went on to earn a bachelor's |
---|
11 | 11 | | degree from The University of Texas at Austin, where he was senior |
---|
12 | 12 | | class president; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Jacobs embarked on a 45-year career in insurance |
---|
14 | 14 | | and financial services in 1964, and he eventually went into |
---|
15 | 15 | | business for himself, forming Jacobs Insurance, which became |
---|
16 | 16 | | Jacobs-Weber Insurance; he was later a founding partner of |
---|
17 | 17 | | LodeStone Financial Services; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, In 1972, Mr. Jacobs helped establish Bluebonnet |
---|
19 | 19 | | Youth Ranch, a private care facility and long-term residential home |
---|
20 | 20 | | for mothers and families in need; over the years, it has housed more |
---|
21 | 21 | | than 600 children, and he had an active role with the organization, |
---|
22 | 22 | | helping raise millions of dollars at its annual golf tournament |
---|
23 | 23 | | fundraiser and serving as a house parent, cook, and tour guide; |
---|
24 | 24 | | along the way, he helped start an endowment fund for the University |
---|
25 | 25 | | of Houston-Victoria athletic program and gave generously of his |
---|
26 | 26 | | time and talents to several charitable organizations, including the |
---|
27 | 27 | | Boy Scouts Troop 110 of Victoria; he was recognized as a Knight of |
---|
28 | 28 | | St. Gregory by Pope John Paul II for outstanding community service |
---|
29 | 29 | | and received the South Texas Council of Boy Scouts of America |
---|
30 | 30 | | Distinguished Citizen Award in 2018; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Jacobs married Mary Virginia Mason in Kerrville |
---|
32 | 32 | | on June 6, 1964, and the couple shared a fulfilling marriage that |
---|
33 | 33 | | spanned nearly six decades; he took great pride in his children, |
---|
34 | 34 | | Todd and Tonya, and his grandchildren, Zachary and Jenna; and |
---|
35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, An engaged citizen, a devoted family man, and an |
---|
36 | 36 | | admired business leader, Claud Jacobs lived a rich and purposeful |
---|
37 | 37 | | life, and he will forever be remembered with deep affection by those |
---|
38 | 38 | | who knew and loved him; now, therefore, be it |
---|
39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
40 | 40 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Claud Barton Jacobs |
---|
41 | 41 | | and extend heartfelt sympathy to his family and friends; and, be it |
---|
42 | 42 | | further |
---|
43 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

44 | 44 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |

45 | 45 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Claud |
