| 7 | 7 | | relating to the County Court at Law of Aransas County. |

| 8 | 8 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 9 | 9 | | SECTION 1. Sections 25.0062(a) and (b), Government Code, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | are amended to read as follows: |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | (a) In addition to the jurisdiction provided by Section |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | 25.0003 and other law, a county court at law of Aransas County has |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | concurrent jurisdiction with the district court in: |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | (1) family law cases and proceedings; [and] |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | (2) felony cases to conduct arraignments, conduct |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | pretrial hearings, and accept guilty pleas; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | (3) civil cases in which the matter in controversy |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | exceeds the maximum amount provided by Section 25.0003. |

| 19 | 19 | | (b) The district clerk serves as clerk of a county court at |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | law in felony cases, in [and] family law cases and proceedings, and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | in civil cases in which the matter in controversy exceeds $250,000. |

| 22 | 22 | | The [and the] county clerk serves as clerk of a county court at law |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | in all other cases. The district clerk shall establish a separate |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | docket for a county court at law. The commissioners court shall |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | provide the deputy clerks, bailiffs, and other personnel necessary |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | to operate a county court at law. |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | SECTION 2. The changes in law made by this Act apply only to |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | a case filed or proceeding commenced on or after the effective date |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | of this Act. A case filed or proceeding commenced before the |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | effective date of this Act is governed by the law in effect on the |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | date the case was filed or the proceeding was commenced, and the |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | former law is continued in effect for that purpose. |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
