| 7 | 7 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 8 | 8 | | SECTION 1. Section 41.0052, Election Code, is amended by |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | adding Subsection (a-1) to read as follows: |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | (a-1) The governing body of an independent school district |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | that holds its general election for officers on a date other than |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | the November uniform election date may change the date on which it |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | holds its general election for officers to the November uniform |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | election date. This subsection applies only to a county that |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | borders the United Mexican States and that has a population of at |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | least 450,000 and not more than 870,000. This subsection expires |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | January 1, 2029. |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
