77 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
88 SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 403, Government Code, is
99 amended by adding Section 403.03059 to read as follows:
1010 Sec. 403.03059. COMPENSATION FOR COMMISSIONED PEACE
1111 OFFICERS. The comptroller shall ensure that a security officer or
1212 investigator commissioned as a peace officer by the comptroller is
1313 compensated according to Schedule C of the position classification
1414 salary schedule prescribed by the General Appropriations Act.
1515 SECTION 2. Section 661.918(a), Government Code, is amended
1616 to read as follows:
1717 (a) This section applies to a peace officer under Article
1818 2.12, Code of Criminal Procedure, who is commissioned as a law
1919 enforcement officer or agent, including a ranger, by:
2020 (1) the Public Safety Commission and the director of
2121 the Department of Public Safety;
2222 (2) the Parks and Wildlife Commission;
2323 (3) the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission;
2424 (4) the attorney general; [or]
2525 (5) the insurance fraud unit of the Texas Department
2626 of Insurance; or
2727 (6) the comptroller.
2828 SECTION 3. (a) The classification officer in the office of
2929 the state auditor shall classify the position of commissioned peace
3030 officer employed by the comptroller of public accounts of the State
3131 of Texas as a Schedule C position under the position classification
3232 plan maintained under Chapter 654, Government Code.
3333 (b) The change made by the classification officer as
3434 required by this section applies beginning with the state fiscal
3535 biennium beginning September 1, 2023.
3636 (c) This section expires September 1, 2025.
3737 SECTION 4. Section 661.918(a), Government Code, as amended
3838 by this Act, applies only to an injury that occurs on or after the
3939 effective date of this Act.
4040 SECTION 5. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
