6 | 6 | | investigators commissioned as peace officers by the comptroller. |

7 | 7 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

8 | 8 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 403, Government Code, is |
---|
9 | 9 | | amended by adding Section 403.03059 to read as follows: |
---|
10 | 10 | | Sec. 403.03059. COMPENSATION FOR COMMISSIONED PEACE |
---|
11 | 11 | | OFFICERS. The comptroller shall ensure that a security officer or |
---|
12 | 12 | | investigator commissioned as a peace officer by the comptroller is |
---|
13 | 13 | | compensated according to Schedule C of the position classification |
---|
14 | 14 | | salary schedule prescribed by the General Appropriations Act. |
---|
15 | 15 | | SECTION 2. Section 661.918(a), Government Code, is amended |
---|
16 | 16 | | to read as follows: |
---|
17 | 17 | | (a) This section applies to a peace officer under Article |
---|
18 | 18 | | 2.12, Code of Criminal Procedure, who is commissioned as a law |
---|
19 | 19 | | enforcement officer or agent, including a ranger, by: |
---|
20 | 20 | | (1) the Public Safety Commission and the director of |
---|
21 | 21 | | the Department of Public Safety; |
---|
22 | 22 | | (2) the Parks and Wildlife Commission; |
---|
23 | 23 | | (3) the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission; |
---|
24 | 24 | | (4) the attorney general; [or] |
---|
25 | 25 | | (5) the insurance fraud unit of the Texas Department |
---|
26 | 26 | | of Insurance; or |
---|
27 | 27 | | (6) the comptroller. |
---|
28 | 28 | | SECTION 3. (a) The classification officer in the office of |
---|
29 | 29 | | the state auditor shall classify the position of commissioned peace |
---|
30 | 30 | | officer employed by the comptroller of public accounts of the State |
---|
31 | 31 | | of Texas as a Schedule C position under the position classification |
---|
32 | 32 | | plan maintained under Chapter 654, Government Code. |
---|
33 | 33 | | (b) The change made by the classification officer as |
---|
34 | 34 | | required by this section applies beginning with the state fiscal |
---|
35 | 35 | | biennium beginning September 1, 2023. |
---|
36 | 36 | | (c) This section expires September 1, 2025. |
---|
37 | 37 | | SECTION 4. Section 661.918(a), Government Code, as amended |
---|
38 | 38 | | by this Act, applies only to an injury that occurs on or after the |
---|
39 | 39 | | effective date of this Act. |
---|
40 | 40 | | SECTION 5. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
