66 AN ACT
77 relating to a substitute teaching requirement for each member of
88 the senate and the house of representatives.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Subchapter F, Chapter 301, Government Code, is
1111 amended by adding Section 301.073 to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 301.073. SUBSTITUTE TEACHING REQUIREMENT. (a) Each
1313 member of the senate and the house of representatives shall
1414 substitute teach at a public school located in the member's
1515 district for at least one school day each school year.
1616 (b) Each member shall report the member's compliance with
1717 Subsection (a) to the senate or house committee on administration,
1818 as applicable. Each committee shall maintain a list of the members
1919 in the committee's respective house who do not meet the
2020 requirements of this section. The list is public information under
2121 Chapter 552.
2222 SECTION 2. The changes in law made by this Act apply
2323 beginning with the 2023-2024 school year.
2424 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2525 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2626 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2727 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2828 Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
