| 9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter F, Chapter 301, Government Code, is |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | amended by adding Section 301.073 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Sec. 301.073. SUBSTITUTE TEACHING REQUIREMENT. (a) Each |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | member of the senate and the house of representatives shall |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | substitute teach at a public school located in the member's |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | district for at least one school day each school year. |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | (b) Each member shall report the member's compliance with |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Subsection (a) to the senate or house committee on administration, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | as applicable. Each committee shall maintain a list of the members |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | in the committee's respective house who do not meet the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | requirements of this section. The list is public information under |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Chapter 552. |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | SECTION 2. The changes in law made by this Act apply |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | beginning with the 2023-2024 school year. |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
