A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to the verification of the status of certain driver's
licenses before renting a motor vehicle.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. This Act shall be known as the 2Step Act.
SECTION 2. Section 521.460(b), Transportation Code, is
amended to read as follows:
(b) A person may not rent a motor vehicle to a renter until
the person:
(1) has inspected the renter's driver's license; and
(2) if the renter is a resident of this state, has
verified with the department, or a private vendor that has
contracted with the department under Section 521.055(e), that the
renter's driver's license is valid.
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
