| 7 | 7 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 8 | 8 | | SECTION 1. Section 262.114, Family Code, is amended by |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | adding Subsection (a-3) to read as follows: |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | (a-3) The department shall maintain an electronic record of |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | the status of a home study required under Subsection (a) of a |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | potential relative or designated caregiver. |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | SECTION 2. Section 262.114(a-3), Family Code, as added by |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | this Act, applies only to a home study performed on or after the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | effective date of this Act. A home study performed before the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | effective date of this Act is governed by the law in effect on the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | date the home study was performed, and the former law is continued |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | in effect for that purpose. |

| 19 | 19 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
