55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to the regulation of certain continuing education
88 programs.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 6002.159, Insurance Code, is amended by
1111 amending Subsection (b) and adding Subsection (c) to read as
1212 follows:
1313 (b) The commissioner may not adopt a rule that excludes or
1414 devalues a signed or otherwise substantially verifiable
1515 certificate of training that is:
1616 (1) applicable to the areas of work authorized by the
1717 relevant license; and
1818 (2) issued by a training program or school that is:
1919 (A) nationally recognized; or
2020 (B) authorized under the Occupations Code or
2121 Education Code.
2222 (c) The commissioner may not adopt a rule that requires more
2323 than eight hours of [Participation in the] continuing education for
2424 any license renewal period [programs is voluntary].
2525 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2626 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2727 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2828 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2929 Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
