55 AN ACT
66 relating to prohibiting municipal libraries that host certain
77 events from receiving state or other public funding.
88 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Chapter 315, Local Government Code, is amended
1010 by adding Section 315.0051 to read as follows:
1111 Sec. 315.0051. PROHIBITED EVENTS AT MUNICIPAL LIBRARIES. A
1212 municipal library may not receive state or other public funds if the
1313 library hosts an event at which a man presenting as a woman or a
1414 woman presenting as a man reads a book or a story to a minor for
1515 entertainment and the person being dressed as the opposite gender
1616 is a primary component of the entertainment. The state and a
1717 political subdivision may not provide funds to the municipal
1818 library for the fiscal year following the year in which the library
1919 hosts an event described by this section.
2020 SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only
2121 to an event that occurs on or after the effective date of this Act.
2222 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
