77 relating to a study on the impact of illegal immigration in this

99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 411, Government Code, is
1111 amended by adding Section 411.02091 to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 411.02091. IMMIGRATION IMPACT STUDY. (a) The
1313 department shall conduct an annual study on the environmental,
1414 safety, and community impact of illegal immigration in this state,
1515 including any impact to the Texas electric grid.
1616 (b) The department may collaborate or contract with a state
1717 or federal agency, a political subdivision, an institution of
1818 higher education, or a nonprofit organization or other private
1919 entity to assist in conducting the study required by this section.
2020 (c) Not later than September 1 of each year, the department
2121 shall prepare and submit a report to the governor, lieutenant
2222 governor, and legislature containing the results of the study
2323 conducted under this section.
2424 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
