9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 411, Government Code, is |
---|
11 | 11 | | amended by adding Section 411.02091 to read as follows: |

12 | 12 | | Sec. 411.02091. IMMIGRATION IMPACT STUDY. (a) The |
---|
13 | 13 | | department shall conduct an annual study on the environmental, |
---|
14 | 14 | | safety, and community impact of illegal immigration in this state, |
---|
15 | 15 | | including any impact to the Texas electric grid. |
---|
16 | 16 | | (b) The department may collaborate or contract with a state |
---|
17 | 17 | | or federal agency, a political subdivision, an institution of |
---|
18 | 18 | | higher education, or a nonprofit organization or other private |
---|
19 | 19 | | entity to assist in conducting the study required by this section. |
---|
20 | 20 | | (c) Not later than September 1 of each year, the department |
---|
21 | 21 | | shall prepare and submit a report to the governor, lieutenant |
---|
22 | 22 | | governor, and legislature containing the results of the study |
---|
23 | 23 | | conducted under this section. |
---|
24 | 24 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
