7 | 7 | | relating to the authority of the attorney general to represent |

8 | 8 | | county officials in certain cases. |

9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Section 157.9015, Local Government Code, is |
---|
11 | 11 | | amended by adding Subsection (d) to read as follows: |

12 | 12 | | (d) If a district or county attorney declines to represent a |
---|
13 | 13 | | county official or employee under Subsection (c), the county |
---|
14 | 14 | | official or employee may request the representation of the attorney |
---|
15 | 15 | | general, and the attorney general may offer representation to the |
---|
16 | 16 | | county official or employee. |
---|
17 | 17 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
---|
18 | 18 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
---|
19 | 19 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
---|
20 | 20 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
---|
21 | 21 | | Act takes effect on the 91st day after the last day of the |
---|
22 | 22 | | legislative session. |
