5	5	relating to the participation of the medical school at The
6	6	University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler in the Joint
7	7	Admission Medical Program.
8	8	BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
9	9	SECTION 1. Section 51.821(4), Education Code, is amended to
10	10	read as follows:
11	11	(4) "Participating medical school" means each of the
12	12	following entities:
13	13	(A) the medical school at The University of Texas
14	14	Health Science Center at Houston;
15	15	(B) the medical school at The University of Texas
16	16	Southwestern Medical Center;
17	17	(C) the medical school at The University of Texas
18	18	Health Science Center at San Antonio;
19	19	(D) the medical school at The University of Texas
20	20	Medical Branch at Galveston;
21	21	(E) the medical school at the Texas Tech
22	22	University Health Sciences Center at Lubbock;
23	23	(F) the medical school at the Texas Tech
24	24	University Health Sciences Center at El Paso;
25	25	(G) the Baylor College of Medicine;
26	26	(H) the college of osteopathic medicine at the
27	27	University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth;
28	28	(I) the medical school at The Texas A&M
29	29	University System Health Science Center;
30	30	(J) the medical school at The University of Texas
31	31	at Austin;
32	32	(K) the medical school at The University of Texas
33	33	Rio Grande Valley;
34	34	(L) the medical school at the University of
35	35	Houston; [and]
36	36	(M) the college of osteopathic medicine at Sam
37	37	Houston State University; and
38	38	(N) the medical school at The University of Texas
39	39	Health Science Center at Tyler.
40	40	SECTION 2. (a) As soon as practicable after the effective
41	41	date of this Act, the medical school at The University of Texas
42	42	Health Science Center at Tyler shall:
43	43	(1) enter into the agreement with the Joint Admission
44	44	Medical Program Council required by Section 51.829, Education Code;
45	45	and
46	46	(2) select an appropriate faculty member to represent
47	47	the medical school on the council.
48	48	(b) The medical school at The University of Texas Health
49	49	Science Center at Tyler shall provide internships and mentoring
50	50	under the Joint Admission Medical Program as appropriate beginning
51	51	not later than the 2025-2026 academic year, but is not required
52	52	before the 2026-2027 academic year to admit participating students
53	53	to the school under the program.
54	54	SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
55	55	a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
56	56	provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
57	57	Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
58	58	Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
