55 relating to the Texas First Early High School Completion Program
66 and the Texas First Scholarship Program.
77 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
88 SECTION 1. Section 28.0253(a)(2), Education Code, is
99 amended to read as follows:
1010 (2) "Eligible institution" means an institution of
1111 higher education [that is designated as a research university or
1212 emerging research university under the coordinating board's
1313 accountability system].
1414 SECTION 2. Section 28.0253(e), Education Code, is amended
1515 to read as follows:
1616 (e) A school district or open-enrollment charter school
1717 shall allow a student to graduate and receive [may issue] a high
1818 school diploma [to a student] under the program if, using the
1919 standards established under Subsection (c), the student
2020 demonstrates mastery of and early readiness for college in each of
2121 the subject areas described by that subsection and in a language
2222 other than English, notwithstanding any other local or state
2323 requirements.
2424 SECTION 3. Section 56.221(2), Education Code, is amended to
2525 read as follows:
2626 (2) "Eligible institution" means an institution of
2727 higher education, as that term is defined by Section 61.003[, that
2828 is designated as a research university or emerging research
2929 university under the coordinating board's accountability system].
3030 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
