55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to persons authorized to conduct a marriage ceremony.
88 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Section 2.202(a), Family Code, is amended to
1010 read as follows:
1111 (a) The following persons are authorized to conduct a
1212 marriage ceremony:
1313 (1) a licensed or ordained Christian minister or
1414 priest;
1515 (2) a Jewish rabbi;
1616 (3) a person who is an officer of a religious
1717 organization and who is authorized by the organization to conduct a
1818 marriage ceremony;
1919 (4) a justice of the supreme court, judge of the court
2020 of criminal appeals, justice of the courts of appeals, judge of the
2121 district, county, and probate courts, judge of the county courts at
2222 law, judge of the courts of domestic relations, judge of the
2323 juvenile courts, retired justice or judge of those courts, justice
2424 of the peace, retired justice of the peace, judge of a municipal
2525 court, retired judge of a municipal court, associate judge of a
2626 statutory probate court, retired associate judge of a statutory
2727 probate court, associate judge of a county court at law, retired
2828 associate judge of a county court at law, master or magistrate
2929 appointed under Chapter 54, Government Code, or judge or magistrate
3030 of a federal court of this state; and
3131 (5) a retired judge or magistrate of a federal court of
3232 this state.
3333 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
