| 9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 37.204(a), Education Code, is amended to | |
| 11 | 11 | read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | (a) The governor shall annually appoint a chairperson from | |
| 13 | 13 | among the membership of the board. The board shall annually elect | |
| 14 | 14 | from among its members [a chairperson and] a vice chairperson. | |
| 15 | 15 | SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only | |
| 16 | 16 | to the appointment of a chairperson of the board of directors of the | |
| 17 | 17 | Texas School Safety Center for a term that begins on or after the | |
| 18 | 18 | effective date of this Act. | |
| 19 | 19 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
